During my time on the BDO summer school programme, I spent my time in the audit department and was able to learn a lot about what a job in audit would be like. I was always given work to do such as checking accounts and researching companies.
On the first day of the two week programme, I spent the day in London and this really helped me develop my teamwork skills with many team tasks as well as an insight into the business.
I really enjoyed this programme, I always had something to do and I felt like I could ask anyone if I needed help. I was comforable to ask for more work to do and overall I thought BDO really welcomed me, making my experience enjoyable.
I feel very valued by BDO as they have really made me feel welcome, and I feel like the work I am doing will benifit the company. I felt like I could ask about anything and I was always given tasks to complete.
The programme is structured, the first day in London was really informative and gave me lots of insight into the business and helped us prepare for our two weeks. In the regional office I always had work to complete and I did different activities each day, not the same thing over and over again.
As it was work experience and I was only there for 2 weeks I did not recieve any type of formal training.
I received a lot of support from the staff at BDO. They all took time to speak to me about how I was doing, my time at BDO and about BDO itself. They seemed happy to help me out with anything and answered all my questions.
I was paid for my work experence which was really good and also all my travel expenses were paid for including my train down to London.
There are lots of activities to get involved with for others at BDO and even though I was only there for 2 weeks I was invited to some evens with colleagues
Yes
The people at the BDO really made me feel welcome and valued and I think this is why I enjoyed my experience so much. If people are thinking about a career in audit or accounting, I would definitly recomend this programme to gain experiences in accounting and get a real feel of a big business.
Learn the values of the firm as they are important to BDO when looking for someone who can deliver exceptional client service. Show that you are willing to work hard and in interviews be yourself.
