My day-to-day role involves governing and assuring sales opportunities in my business unit. This includes scheduling reviews for the senior leadership team to review and authorise a sales opportunity/bid. As well as this I take part in delivering Risk management training to colleagues in the business unit and help with audits
Since joining the team I have learnt new IT skills for example I didn't know how to use SharePoint but now I am taking on a project to update my teams SharePoint sites. I have also developed my public speaking skills which ties closely with my communicating skills. I have also learnt how to manage my time better when things get busy.
I enjoy the work side of my apprenticeship a lot more than the university side. Winchester university is not the best provider of the degree apprenticeship for a number of reasons. The teaching across all business management modules is good however the module that relates to work is not well structured and it is not taught in the most effective way.
Winchester's organisation/structure is good across most modules but again the work based module is very confusing and it is hard to see the purpose of why it is a module that we get taught. At work, my manager and team are very understanding and my week is structured well.
I receive support from my team with anything that I ask. My manager is very understanding and allows me to organise and prioritise my week how I feel works best. I gain more support nearer the end of the semester from my team and manager that I am thankful for
Winchester university do provide a level of support e.g. module drop in sessions towards the end of the semester that are run by the module lecturers. However at times I do feel as though some lecturers forget that us degree apprentices do not have the same amount of free time as full time students.
I feel as though I learn good content at university however from my understanding the work based studies module is meant to help my performance at work when in reality the work we have to complete for this module doesn't benefit or help me perform better in my role instead it makes me more stressed because I have to use more of my time completing work that I do not see the point in.
Yes - at work we have a graduate and apprentice community. The community has monthly meetings where we have the privilege to listen to guest speakers (occasionally SLT members) and we also have Fujitsu apprenticeship forums held annually where we can network with Fujitsu apprentices all over the UK. We also have social events that we can attend - these are held monthly.
Yes
I would recommend Fujitsu to a friend as a good supplier of apprenticeships because I believe they understand how to integrate apprentices into the working world well. There is room for improvement in the on boarding aspects and Fujitsu are not the best payers when comparing apprenticeships across the UK
Be confident in what you want to achieve and do not be scared to step forward and ask things. At this early stage in your career it is best to take on as many opportunities you can to build your professional portfolio. Fujitsu is also a well known company so gain all the experience you can whilst you're young
