Performing Audit Testing for example testing client controls to ensure what they have said gives a true and fair view. This draws on the Audit and Assurance work we learn at University therefore is a good way to learn new skills while working and apply your knowledge to the real world
I have developed new skills such as working in a professional environment, especially for long hours which is very different to University. I have learnt how to manage myself and also my time. I can now better work independently and feel more comfortable now when speaking to senior team members.
I very much enjoy the programme due to having a smaller course. It is great to know everyone you are in class with and get to know the tutors on a personal level which helps to make great friends. A mix of study and also work at the same time complement each other.
The structure of the programme is good and has been well thought through. It is good to have study time at the start of the year, followed by work and then back for exams. We get lots of support when returning back to university which is something to look forward to after working.
The support is good from PwC, particularly if you make the most of the time with your team and you get to know them well. However, sometimes there would be a lack of senior team members around for you to raise your concerns or ask for extra work, or not many people checking up on you.
There is lots of support and exams are fully paid for. We can take most exams through the university and then some after we graduate. We will be paid to attend college to study towards the remaining exams to become a chartered accountant, which is a great way to qualify early.
It definitely helps because you have the prior skills and knowledge that can be put into practice. Some people start this job in Audit with little or no experience in the field, therefore it is great having an understanding before commencing work as I know the basics and therefore can settle in quicker and perform better.
There are many social activities within my team as we are a young, outgoing team. We have group socials and there are sports teams which I havent been involved with while on placement but heard it is great fun over summer. I have had many invites to networking events or industry talks which is a great way to expand your awareness.
Yes
It is great to have a sponsorship by a company and an integrated placement. This eases the pressure of finding a sandwich year placement and even a graduate job therefore we can focus on our studies better. It is great to have a small network or colleagues/students who are in the same position and go through the same experience together and support each other.
Tips would be to be confident and remain open minded. When working in a big company in a busy environment it is important to remain focused and remember where you are working. Take time to research the course and the job first before applying to ensure you have a good round knowledge of what is expected and what the company is looking for to see if you are a good fit for them.
