I am a project manager on a large software development programme. I manage a work stream within the programme throughout the software delivery lifecycle, from commissioning to go-live. I work with business analysts, software developers, testers and client operations support team members as well as the client business team. I ensure all the necessary governance is completed for the project and that the project delivers successfully.
Since joining CGI i have hugely increased my personal skills becoming more confident, able to present to large groups, able to manage stakeholders far more senior than me and better able to work within and manage teams. Additional to my apprenticeship course i have completed Prince 2 foundation, Practitioner and agile Practitioner as well as ITIL foundation. All of this i have been able to do through CGIs training function.
I work within an extremely supportive team, who make coming my workplace a fun place to be and are always around to help me with anything that i am struggling with. Whenever i need anything or have an idea for improvement my colleagues are always supportive of this and provide me with what i need.
CGI has a structured onboarding and buddying program for new joiners which is highly successful. My program is a day release program where i attend university 1 day a week. This interaction between uni and work has been extremely well organised and both my managers and uni tutors work together to ensure that everything i need is in place.
I am supported by my day to day manager, the program manager; who looks after all PMs , my programs VP and my career mentor. Additionally I can ask anyone in my team for support and they have been great at helping me with my studies by using all of their knowledge.
My university supports me by providing workplace meetings once per trimester with my workplace mentor so that we can discuss how i am getting on and any additional support i might need. Additionally if i have any issues my tutor is always contactable and is willing to help with any university related issue that i have.
My qualification has helped me to gain more of technical understanding which is helping me to be more of an active participant in technical conversation and additionally helping my overall skills as an IT project manager. I am learning up to date topics such as devops which help to ensure my skills are at the forefront of where the IT industry is going.
I am a founder member of my program's member engagement program and have organised events for international women day and mental health awareness week. Additionally i am an active member of the sports and social club, recently i have attended events such as; chocolate tasting, karaoke night and theater night.

CGI is an extremely supportive environment in which to grow your career. The support available from fellow CGI members is enormous and this can be harnessed to ensure success both at uni and within the workplace. Additionally as CGI is such a large organisation there is opportunity for exposure to a number of areas within the IT industry which is ideal for someone growing a career in IT.
Both the application process and the assessment days can be quite intense but please don't let this put you off! These processes are designed so that the recruitment team can get to know you and find out if you are the right fit for CGI not to try and catch you out! Come prepared for a group task and a competency based interview, but don't panic about either of these just try and do your best.
