My main role this placement was the cash testing which due to the type of client was very complex and hard to grasp. I communicated with the client daily as well as my team. I was also in charge of sending out daily reminders for any outstanding deliverables from the client.
I've learnt how to deal with the client in terms of professionalism and communication. I've learnt many excel skills that I will take with me to future audits. I have also built on my existing accounting knowledge from university, and will be taking a greater understanding of audit when I return to university.
My programme is great. To have placements incorporated into study time allows me to learn the theory and then put it to practice in an environment that I will eventually be full time in. The financial benefits are great as university can be a real struggle too. The firm and university always make you feel supported.
Organisation can sometimes be average. We found out our office allocations a lot later than we expected and our accommodation. The structure in terms of one term in university, then one in PwC and then the last in university however I really like. It breaks up the year and gives us a longer university experience with the 4 years.
A lot. My people manager was very good at helping me with queries and providing advice in situations. Fellow programme students were always checking up on me to ensure I was happy as well as my team members. They always checked on me to see how I was getting on
The application process was quite long and there wasn't much support. This led to me having to contact them many times to update my form which took a while with turn around days etc. They have however given us access to great resources and with hellping us towards our professional qualifications.
Learning the modules for the qualifications has been very helpful as I have knowledge to bring with me to the job. I can use the knowledge to perform testing etc. It's things like professional scepticism which you'd think are irrelevant but they're very important so all in all its helpful.
There are extra-curricular activities available, however due to the extensive amount of work ive been doing i havent had time to participate. I've been to work end drinks once which was nice as i had a chance to network with fellow colleagues that I've now interacted with in the office.
Yes
My placement has taught me how to be competent, professional and disciplined. What i've learnt will help me in my university studies and i will carry my skills forward to following audit engagements. The employees are mainly all the same age group so it has a good social side as well as work side.
Follow the firm and what it gets involved it. Learn about their five attributes. Be as outgoing and professional as you can be as they like confident people, however dont be overconfident and dominating. They are interested in people that have an interest in public affairs so definitely download a news app!!
