On a day to day basis, my job consists of travelling to clients and auditing their financial statements. This means I will be assessing whether or not their financial statement are a true and fair insight into their business. I tackle various sections of the financial statements but mainly work on the balance sheet side of things with the rest of the team.
I have developed plenty of new skills whilst working for RSM - I have become much more excel proficient, I have increased my confidence and people skills as I have to deal with different clients and different teams all the time. Also whilst working through the AAT Level 3 qualification I have gained plenty of knowledge into accountany.
I enjoy my job as I'm not doing the same monotonous tasks every day as I'm always moving from client to client and working with different teams around the country. Also, whilst getting paid a competitive salary at my age, I get to study AAT free of charge and look forward to moving onto ACA in the upcoming years.
There are periods of time where the programme does not seem very structured as you may be put on a job that is far away from your place of living. This makes travel time long and not much fun. Also, when staffing is tight you may get put on away jobs (such as Slough) which is a ridiculously long way to travel.
The support I receive from my employers is ok - I get to have regular chats with my line manager and there is always someone in the office that can help out if you are stuck on a piece of work. Although, sometimes you can feel quite intimidated speaking to higher authorities.
I receive regular emails from Kaplan about study days, exams and different events that go on in Kaplan Liverpool. This is really useful as regular communication with my training provider allows me to have clarity on the study dates and exams ahead which is crucial if I want to pass my exams.
I definitely think my qualification has helped me in my role as an Auditor as if gives me the fundamental and advanced understanding of financial account and the methodologies behind them. Without this understanding I don't think I'd be very well equipped to concluded whether financial accounts were right or not.
Yes, there are plenty of extra curricular activities within RSM that allow assistants like myself to network and meet new people. Such as sports days, fancy dinners and training events. This allows me and my fellow colleagues to catch up with members from other officers and gain new contacts during events.
