My role is an audit assistant. I go out on site to client's and overview the period of their financial statements to check they have processed and accounted for everything correctly. I have a supervisor (Senior) with me who carries out work on the P/L and I do work on the balance sheet.
My communication has improved due to having to communicate regularly with client's as well as people internally within my firm. It has given me more confidence to speak out about my profession and use what u learn at college positively in the work place. I have also improved on my team working, this is due to the fact that I regularly work in a team on site at the client's to complete the full audit work.
I thoroughly enjoy the programme, it allows me to learn new skills at knowledge at college and then also bring these into the work place to improve my work skills and become better at my job role as an audit assistant. It has allowed me to work with new people and meet a range of people at all different training and work events
It is very well structured. I firstly start on AAT which is a 2 years course and my first qualification. I take college days once a week when my exam date is close which allows me to work on the job as well study. I then do ACA which is a 3 year qualification and the next one up
I receive a lot of support. I have a buddy at work who has gone through the process that I have with AAT who is there for me to ask questions to and help me in any way she can. In addition I have regular meetings with my line manager to discuss my progress and if there is anything I am struggling on
My training provider rings me 4/5 times a year to discuss the point I am at in my apprenticeship and where I should be up to in my work. They also ask how my job is going and how I find my exam studies. I also get emails from them leading up to my exam asking if there is any help they can provide
My college through my training provider provides me with knowledge to help understand the world of accountancy more. It helps me to understand each part of the financial statements I receive at client and also helps me understand movements in numbers and the client's operations which is something I didn't know before joining RSM
We hold monthly/ quarterly department events where we pick a destination to go e.g. crazy golf etc. where it gives us a chance to bond and get to work in teams with people we don't usually. 2 times a year we also have an office team day where the whole office comes together to do fun activities and get to meet one and other
Yes
It is a really friendly environment with great managers and supervisors that help guide you through the apprenticeship process. There is always someone there to support you if you are struggling as well as plenty social events where you can relax and learn more about the other people who work at the Newcastle office.
Be yourself, make sure you show yourself off in your application and show the interviewers the potential you have. Don't be afraid to ask questions or feel like you don't know anything just because you're new. You don't have to be in the field of accountancy to join RSM so don't feel like knowing nothing puts you at a disadvantage
