A variety of tasks including preparing statutory financial statements, LLP tax computations and returns, working with Trust accounts, preparing management accounts and doing ixbrl tagging - using a variety of software programmes to complete these. I also get to go to a range of training events quite frequently and do an exam for my qualification every couple of months.
I have developed many existing skills and have learnt many new ones. My technical knowledge of accounting has increased greatly since joining PwC - this has been helped through exams, training events I have been to and on the job software training. My soft skills have been developed too since joining.
I do enjoy my programme and it is always getting better. As I learn more through training and exams, I enjoy my work more as I gain a deeper understanding of what I am doing. The work I do is interesting and varies from day to day which makes it enjoyable.
My programme is very structured, I have my CFAB exams spread throughout the year every couple of months and know what dates I will be at college or on study for these already. Other training event are also very structured and organised and we are notified about these well in advance. The structure of the training days is also very good.
I receive a lot of support from my employer in regards to work and study, We have been allocated a career coach who is there to support us through our time at PwC as a mentor, they are the first point of call for any issues. Everyone in the office is also very supportive.
Kaplan provide a lot of support over exams. We have a dedicated Kaplan person who gives us regular catch up calls and there is a Kaplan email address especially for PwC which you can use if you have any questions. All the tutors at Kaplan are individually supportive also and really care.
My qualification has definitely helped me gain a better understanding of the work that I do in my role. I work with a lot of statutory financial statements so I have been able to pick up a lot of knowledge that has helped give me a greater understanding of what things mean.
There are not many events like this for my particular office as we are only small, however there are a number of firmwide social events available and I know a lot of other offices have social events quite regularly too. Itr would be nice for more of these events to be available to our office.
Yes
They are a great firm who offer a competitive salary and excellent training. I would definitely recommend PwC to anyone not wanting to go to University and looking for an apprenticeship like myself, I feel I have made the right decision to join PwC and love the opportunities it makes available to me.
I would say the best advice would be to make sure you complete all the practice tests before taking the assessments and read up on the assessment day before you go and practice the psychometric tests online and writing emails formally. The on boarding process is very straightforward and involves going away to Birmingham for a week.
