  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day-to-day role largely involves assisting more senior members of the team with projects and work streams that are currently taking place on clients. These may include R&D claims, technical papers/memos, and admin tasks to name a few. Due to the nature of the relationship team, there are a lot of short-term, ad hoc piece of work, however as you become more established on clients, the responsibilities increase as you take on a bigger role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining PwC I have learnt so much! There are various training sessions available that you can complete both in person or online which help to develop your knowledge and skills. The majority of learning takes place while carrying out your day-to-day role - the whole team are very helpful and are always willing to share their knowledge and experience to further your own development. I am currently completing my ATT qualification which gives me the opportunity to formally learn about areas of tax relevant to my job whilst also gaining a professional qualification which aids career progression.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The programme has on the whole been really enjoyable, I have met some amazing people and developed strong relationships in a very short time. There are so many opportunities within PwC which is why it is such a good choice - I would really recommend the firm as a good place to work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I had a slightly rocky joining experience as I was the only HApp in my office, the communication at the start was insufficient and I was unsure of my pathway however since then things have improved. My actual work in the office has been very efficient, more senior members of the team have been willing to delegate work and get me involved in clients. There is a lot of support at PwC - you are assigned a buddy and a career coach who act as points of contact when you have any issues or queries.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The tutor at college is very supportive and is willing to help you individually at lunch/after class or via email with any issues you may be having. People in the office are very understanding when you are out of the office with college and will ensure that your workload isn't too much when you are studying. It is widely understood that passing exams and studying is a priority over client work in your first few years so striking a balance between the two is easier.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Your professional qualification will often teach you the foundations of tax which ultimately help you to carry out your day-to-day role. While not all topics covered in your professional qualification are directly relevant to your daily job, it is still beneficial to have a wider understanding of a variety of tax areas.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • PwC provide numerous extra-curricular activities, for example they hold regular social events within the team to help reinforce relationships and give you a break from work. At PwC there are various networking opportunities and groups to get involved with, for example I have been involved in Women in Tax Events, volunteering at partner schools, the social club committee, and the community affairs team.
