  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The Role Differs from Comissioning Equipment installed in new/previous builds to taking sales offers and generating schedules from them. The work is flexible and i am asked if i feel i am coping with all aspects of the work load. The work is always explained to me before and during such tasks and questions are always welcomed and almost always answered.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • As a previous alevel student, my knowledge on on what i do now was very rrestricted in the beginning of the apprenticeship. My ability to work now, 7 months into this apprenticeship, has been entirely gained through asking questions, working on jobs surrounded by experts and in house training courses.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy most of the work i do with some abortary slow paced, less interesting work to be done also. The degree side of the program has sparked interest in multiple fields thanks to courses and coursework. However, there have been courseworks which were inadequate in that the questions were too vage to know how to answer them.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As the first cohort of Schneider degree apprentices, there are some elements of the apprenticeship programme yet to be ironed out but, in the most part, the structure is clear and the time in university and out of university is structured with hotels booked in advance. The flexibility we are given to complete university work greatly decreases the stress we have to deal with the work load of a degree and a full time job.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We recieve a great deal of support from line managers and managers of the course as a whole with mettings scheduled to talk about how we feel and what we feel needs to change. we recieve a great deal in terms of clothes for attending site to make visits more comfortable and devices such as mice to make day to day work easier.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The Universtiy of Lincoln Supports us less than would be ideal. However, there is the understanding that university work is very individual and that our time management is an integral part of the completion of the course itself. There are online lectures giving the opportunity to ask questions in a far more personal way since there are only 10-15 people on the calls at any one time.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • After almost all courses' completions, i have used knowledge gained by those courses very soon after to increase my efficiency or even my understanding of my work. So early into the degree, i cant say that all content learned has been directly relevant to my job but the courses so far have still be applicabe to certain aspects of my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Social activites seem to be office specific but i have heard, in conversation, that there are schemes available if you want to be involved in something. I have recently started playing football with a number of people from the Ashby office and have recieved personal invites from people to join certain clubs or attend activites.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Schneider Electric to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because i have felt nothing but support and welcoming from those who work for the company in my office and from offices around the country. I have made Friends in the apprentices doing my course and feel that i am treated fairly. The pay is as competative as they say and the perks have even more so.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Schneider Electric?
  • Negotiate terms in the contract when you join so that the commute and other aspects of day to day life are easier and making sure that petrol expenses arent a large proportion of your wages. This circumstance is purely individual and can be impacted by factors external to the company.
