There is never two days the same working for schneider but typically you are out on site working alongside an engineer who has a lot of experience. You get the chance to work hands on with our products too and are given a lot of responsibility with the role as well.
Yes, we are often going on training courses run at our main training centre in Ashby, here you get amazing training and a chance to learn using real equipment where you can make mistakes. Also you learn everyday about new skills you need to do your job so there are plenty of skills that I have developed and learnt.
I really enjoy the programme at schneider, the team are great to work with as everyone gets on so well and it's an enjoyable place to work as well. The company also want you to enjoy yourself as well as learn which means that you can enjoy every single day.
I am one of the first years to do it but there was a clear structure in place for what we do and what parts of the business you rotate through. They allow for some variation though to allow people the chance to work on new projects and work in different areas so there is good flexibility.
We recieve lots of support from our employer in all areas. We get extra days off to study to allow us to catch up with uni work and complete coursework. We also can easily go up to any member of staff and ask a question as everyone is wanting to help you develop.
We do the majority of our learning through online webinars which allows you the freedom to ask the lecturers any questions about the topic we are currently studying. All of them will take time to respond to our questions which is really helpful if you do not understand a particualr area.
The degree gives everyone the same foundation knowledge as lots of us apprentices have different backgrounds so we are at a different academic level. It also allows us to study more about what we workon within our business. Therefore we can apply what we learn at uni to our everyday role.
Because we work in a field based role there isn't always an extra-curricular activity to get involved in but when we go training there is always football on a monday which I play out of work already. There are always annual events in all the different teams within the business which are fun to get involved in.
