I have had extensive opportunities to develop new skills, from interpreting building structure and construction types with minimal outside information, to a high standard of Microsoft Excel programming which has allowed me to become more efficient in all areas of my work. I have also learnt a great deal about commercial reporting, which has improved my ability to cover a variety of defects or subjects in detail while being as succinct as possible.
I am enjoying my programme very much. The varied day-to-day tasks allow me to gain a full understanding of both the infrastructure that goes in to facilitating an inspection, as well as the inspection process itself. My work with Savills is complemented by my degree studies, with the reverse being true also.
While I do not ‘rotate’ between departments as a graduate would undergoing the APC process, I am able to work with whomever in the Building & Project Consultancy I feel would most benefit me at that time. I am based within the Technical Due Diligence team, who are all very conscious of providing a variety of work and experiences to allow me to develop my skills as a future surveyor.
I receive a large amount of support from my team, as well as the wider division. It was made very clear to me that they would try and involve me in all types of works, but especially those which would carry over to what I was currently studying - something which has been invaluable in keeping up with my University course and the specific competencies which go along with it.
Yes
The support I have received so far on my course has been incredible. All members of my team and wider division are genuinely invested in seeing me develop into a great surveyor. I have been exposed to a great deal of both technical and administrative tasks, which will aid me in future inspections as well as making me more efficient in reporting methods and structure.
That they should certainly apply. I am in no doubt that I made the right decision in choosing Savills to support me through my journey to becoming a surveyor. I think the most important aspect to understand when applying is the scope for variety within the role - both for what can be asked of a building surveyor, and the paths one can follow because of it.
