My current role involves preparing statutory accounts for a variety of different clients, these include micro-entities to FRS102 clients. I also prepare tax computations for unaudited clients, VAT returns and carry out the process of iXBRL tagging (a HMRC requirement for all sets of accounts that are filed at companies house).
I have developed my communication and teamwork skills through working with colleagues and giving the occasional presentation. In addition, I have also developed my time management skills since on every single job that I work on, I am working towards a budget that has been set and you are motivated at the possibility of beating this.
I enjoy the variety of work that is offered at RSM, my day does not just consist of accounts preparation but instead I am given the opportunity to work on a wide range of tasks which further deepens my skill set. Further to this, the company culture fosters building relations with as many people as possible.
My programme is very well structured, I attend college on a regular basis to which the level of teaching and the resources you are provided with are both very good. We also have progress reviews from BPP to track our apprenticeship and to ensure we are constantly developing new skills.
There is always someone who is willing to offer their assistance whenever you may require it. It is instilled from your first day that there simply is no question that could be perceived as 'a silly question'. Everyone I work with looks out for you, especially during the first few months as they are aware of how challenging that can be.
For each module at college your tutor provides you with his email address to which you can then contact him should you ever need to. In addition to this, there is a whole stream of exam preparation software including achievement ladders and mock exams that are provided to aid you along your studies.
My qualification is vital to what I am doing day in day out. The syllabus at college is so relevant that with each module that goes by, you feel much more competent in the role you carry out. Also, the more competent you feel in the work that you are undertaking - the more enjoyment you get out of the job.
There are many social events to get involved with, these can be either the whole office or departmental ones. It provides the opportunity to understand your colleagues and develop relations with other members of your team. Even when you first join there is still an opportunity to attend professional networking events.
