My role is a facilities management apprentice and I assist the facilities team in running the 'behind the scenes of the business' at Granta Park. I am learning about waste/recycling, managing contractors, our stationery ordering, creating a new SharePoint site to help staff get the information they need, assisting with events and much more.
I have learnt lots of new skills so far and I am only a couple months in. I came pretty much straight from sixth form and I have no previous experience in Facilities Management. Not only have I learnt new skills to do with my job, but I have developed confidence, communication skills and general life experience.
I enjoy the programme alot as I have an amazing team of people to work alongside who have supported me from day one. They encourage me on a daily basis and make the more 'day to day' activities fun. The culture of the workplace is also a very supportive, friendly atmosphere.
My programme has only just begun really but so far it seems to be very clear and organised. It is structured to the point where you have certain targets to meet in order to gain the qualification but it has the flexibility to allow me to achieve those targets however myself and my team see fit.
I receive huge amounts of support from my employer. My team support me with every aspect (whether that's working closely or them supporting me from afar) of everything that I do. I also receive support from members of staff outside of my team as everyone at my workplace are friendly and supportive.
I so far have received a high level of support from my training provider, ensuring that I am aware of what I am supposed to do, where to get help from if I am struggling, explained everything so that I am not walking away from a session feeling under prepared.
I believe that it helps to show whether I need to invest myself more into my role and whether or not what I am learning transferable skills from assignments to carrying out my job role. I believe that both elements will transfer and intertwine and help me to perform equally as well.
There are many, us as apprentices have lots of team building and socialising activities to get involved in; atleast one every couple of weeks..if not more! There are also many site wide activities to get involved in; for example charity bake sales, quiz's and over christmas there was a park run where we all dressed as santa to raise money for charity.
Yes
I would recommend due to how supportive, welcoming and helpful the culture is. There is always a high work motivation but also high motivation for social things as well. You cannot fault the people and the atmosphere really - I have never worked anywhere like it and would highly recommend..you just have to come here to see it for yourself really.
I would say to make sure you are committed, the work load can be tough but it is so rewarding and as previously mentioned, there are lots of social (less serious) elements to the job. My advice would just simply be to apply if you're considering it because it is just a lovely company to work for.
