The overview of my role is working shift at London Stansted Airport. I am an engineering technician apprentice and my role is to rotate around the three areas, the terminal Building, Track Transit System and Airfield ground light. While rotating around these areas I learn the skills and knowledge required for each section. I attend college once a week studying the HND program in General Engineering at Harlow College
Yes. I have learnt many skills that are key to the business while at Stansted. I have learn basic tool skills which is key with any engineering job. I have also learnt how to effectively communicate to other technicians and radio communications to the air traffic control tower and combined control centre.
I enjoy the program i am on very much so. I believe it is a extremely good apprenticeship and opportunity being provided to me. Enjoying my work that i take part in at Stansted makes the program a lot more enjoyable and proud to be apart of a good business and provider.
The structure is organised. However, the program is left down to the individual. I believe for myself this is a good thing. This allows you to take more responsibility and try and control where you want to go and want to learn. The freedom that is give to apprentices that do not take advantage of it is a good thing.
Support is always given to me at Stansted whenever i ask or need it. I find help and support within the technicians which are apart of the company. The accessibility of support is easy to access via the hub or i can get it through my line manger at anytime.
This would be the same as above support is given to me when i need it. The only downfall is that Harlow College tend to do what they think is best without consulting MAG. The tutors are all mainly good at providing support but can fall short of this at times.
I believe that the qualification allows me to be eligible for the job. However the qualification has little relation back to work and is sometimes irrelevant. Also Harlow HND is related back to manufacturing which at stansted we are not a manufacturer. This can be a little bit frustrating at times.
Yes there are always extra curricular activities always going on at stansted. This can be training which we have a lot of free range of what training we want to go on. Also opportunists with going to schools, colleges and presenting to them is always available to anyone who wants to do so.
Yes
I would always recommend MAG to many people outside of work and inside work and have done so. This is because its a brilliant company to work for regardless of what area of work you are involved in. There are brilliant opportunities given to everyone and anyone who wants them at MAG.
Be confident, find what you want to do whether it be an apprenticeship, internship or normal job here at Stansted. Also refer to the MAG website every few weeks because there are always opportunities around the corner. Also be open to work anywhere in MAG because you can move and cross over to other areas of the business.
