  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • While my role varies on a day to day basis I would say a key objective is the annual renewal of customer accounts. While my RM will have about 200 customer/ clients to look after I will perform renewals for around 30-50 of them. the rest of my role is Ad Hoc answering customer quires, setting up loan and overdraft applications. Setting up credit and debit cards and managing users within an account.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The skills I have picked up from this role compared to others include, Software knowledge, financial product knowledge, day to day business operations knowledge, how to read and understand business accounts and turnover, Excel, word and office experience on a daily basis. There are many skills that are unique to the role but can be applicable and transferable to other parts of the business.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I personally feel the programme has a good structure. Compared to my friends who are in apprenticeships elsewhere there is a clear path here. While the communication was poor at the start of the program/ me joining I feel it has now gotten better. I do question how important the Tessllo site is to improving my knowledge within work.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • As mentioned before, I think the initial communication was poor but I now know the structure and next steps. While I am not sure how the monthly Tessllo modules are helpful towards the overall course. I am also still waiting for my book which should have arrived last month. My talent coach is very helpful in communicating with me as well which helps me see the structure a lot better.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel I have more than enough support from my manager. He has allowed me to go on any and all trips, has asked numerous times that I have enough time to complete my work and apprenticeship course. As my manager has another apprentice further along the course as well I feel he has allot of knowledge of what is going on in the course.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I feel I have enough contact from my talent coach. I know I can call or email him if/ when I need to. We also have regular face to face catch ups. He is also very honest about the program and answers questions honesty based on his previous experience in the program. I think that in the later stages of the course I will receive more information and training from my talent coach.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • At the moment I would say it has not helped in my role very much. While it has touched on employment law and health and safety, I feel that HSBC has more than adequately trained me on this. I have looked ahead at the future modules and they do look like they are going to improve financial knowledge which will help in my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are regular networking events available I haven't personally gone on any at the moment. I am a member of a five a side football team for staff in the office this is bi weekly. I also think there are allot of common interest in my office with may colleagues going to the same professional rugby and football matches and meeting up outside of work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend HSBC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I think HSBC cares about its employees. Compared to other places I have worked for there are allot more opportunities. These include but are not limited to; flexible working hours, ad hoc requests for personal reasons when needed. Job security. there is a massive variety of benefits on offer, including pensions and the share save scheme.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • From my personal experience, it took a long time in comparison to previous roles, I understand that there were more in depth searches but the communication from the HR team was poor. I would recommend to be flexible and expect flexibility when needed. To be proactive with chasing other teams in the organisation.
