  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Relationship support officer - I on a day to day basis create credit applications in order to support Relationship Managers providing facilities to international subsidiaries. This involved checking various things about the business we are providing the services to e.g. any mortgage charges and audited accounts etc. and also releasing the limits out to the client.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my job the most as I have a lot of responsibilities in my role which is something I find valuable and rewarding. The apprenticeship learning I find interesting, with the Business Banking and Conduct run by the London Institute of Banking and Finance being the most enjoyable and relevant to my role.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think that my programme could be a lot better structured on the whole from my training provider. I think that my apprenticeship mentor is spread rather thin so I don't get the time with them that I think I need. The set up of my apprenticeship was not very smooth and a lot of the time I feel as if I don't know exactly what progress I should be making.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive the most support on the whole from my employer, with my manager ensuring I get sufficient time out of my week to spend on my studies and encouraging me to develop my knowledge even outside of the apprenticeship scheme. I feel that they understand that my studies are just as important as my day to day job.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I don't feel that I get a lot of support from my training provider, they are not overly organised which can be concerning at times as I feel that I don't always know that the work I am doing is correct. They haven't taken the time to fully understand my job role which could become am issue when I finally take my end of apprenticeship assessment.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that having a better knowledge of the qualification will better equip me to carry out my role effectively and in a way that I understand exactly what I am doing. I find it particularly valuable that I now know more about specific lending products that are provided to businesses as this is very relevant within my role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are often professional networking events held by my team which I always attend, this I think is valuable as it helps to get people to know who you are which is important for future roles within the bank. It also helps me to understand the different roles and departments that are out there as I often speak to a range of people in different areas of the bank about what they do.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HSBC?
  • I would say to be yourself as HSBC welcome people from all different walks of life, and while experience and qualifications are important, I would say from my experience so far, how they feel you'll fit into the team and your attitude towards work is just as important to them.
