Retail facing bank assistance including opening and servicing accounts, promotion of bank products and identifying customer needs. I also line manage the staff in my branch when I am there, though I do cover other branches when needed. This includes rota and scheduling, time management, audit work and managing staeholder relationships.
I have learnt and developed an amundance of skills including; building and maintaining customer and stakeholder relationships, time management and organisation, coaching, people and team management, establishing needs, hollistic and meaningful conversations, difficult conversations, types of behaviours and personaility inside and outside of the workplace, opening products, computer use skills including microsoft office and abnk systems.
The programme has been very independant, consisting of being given the resource material to learn from and to complete work on an online system. Due to being working within a full time role during the course, being given no time besides outside of work to complete course work, it has been an unenjoyable course for myself. IT is difficult to find time with my tutor and I have been going through a promotion period, making study not possible as there is no free time to do so.
I personally do not feel that the course is well structured due to the lack of time and being prone to missing improtant meetings, as I'm in a dynamic work setting. A missed appointment means a month of work is late submitted, potentially with no fault of my own.
We are supposed to recieve 1-7 hours during our working week to complete apprenticeship work, as some of this is done on a portfolio related to occurances within the workplace. WE have had maangement changes, so I understand there is some unordinary circumstances, meaning apprenticeship talk has dropped almost entirely. I have recieved about 2 hours of in-work time to compelte apprenticeship activity, so I cannot honestly say I feel there is support.
My training provider is passionate and professional when it comes to the work, especially consdiering she has a lot of people to see and help. HOwever its a real shame when I cannot see her due to work affecting our meetings, we are too reliant on her being able to see us face to face.
I have learnt a lot about my industry and the politics that surrounds it throughout history. Though this has been typically form the provided textbooks, due to not seeing my tutor much throughout the year. This knowledge allows me to provide a wider range of information to our customers, helping me be moire professional in the role.
There is not. However there are oppurtunities to get invovled in charity efforts, such as hikes and whatever we would like to organise for the year. This sometimes is not focused on though and this means the effort can be rather small and ineffective at times. I do wish we had more opeerunties.
Yes
HSBC have values and behaviours that align with my own. They do care about their customers as well as their staff. Development oppertunities are in abundance and managers are encouraged to provide you support no matter your goals in or outside of hsbc. Health and beenfits are also available for employees.
Look towards your own development in the role, not just the role at face value. Be aware that you can get out of the role what you put into it, just showing up each day is not productive in your own best interests. There are a lot of systems older than yourself, this is something you'll have to get used to.
