My day to day role consists of helping customers with ordering and design their new kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. I help them bring their ideas to life but also help with littler things customers may struggle with including finding correct sizes for their toilets seats what size mirror will fit where.
I have developed my knowledge within the retail industry as well as more about B&Q itself. I have also learnt more about how to design a kitchen, bedroom or bathroom for example certain restrictions when placing a cooker in a kitchen. I have also developed my communication skills as I use emailing and phoning more now.
I enjoy that everyone is nice and friendly. I know where to go, what to do and who to go to if I need help with anything and I like that’s it is all to help me develop my skills as a customer adviser and for my progression within B&Q
I think the programme is well organised and structured as everything is set out in different categories and on specific websites so I am able to keep track of work I have done and on what site. This helps me feel more organised within myself which helps me work better as well
My employer and other colleagues are extremely supportive, my manager and unit manger both give me time to work solely on my apprenticeship whilst at work and are keen to help me with any difficulties I may have which a project. They are keen to set up monthly meeting to discuss how I am feeling too
I receive an extreme amount of support from my training provider towards my qualifications. She explained everything in detail to me about what I would be doing and learning as well as answered all and any questions I had about starting the apprenticeship. She sends me emails and keeps me up to date with everything
I feel that my qualification through my training provider will help me become more confident and better at my current job role as it shows me the best way to communicate to customers it also offers me a chance to re do maths and English which plays a big part in my job role.
There aren’t any extra activities to get involved with at work however we do have charities that we can fund raise for and we have been given the chance to go to the factory’s of some of our partners and even our upcoming new ranges events that we have
Yes
I would recommend B&Q to a friend because I have only been here a short while and I already feel extremely comfortable within my job role. They have supported me with me wanting to progress into a higher role and given me back my confidence as a person. They make you feel like your family
My advice would be to anyone wanting to apply to work for B&Q would be to go for it! They are really great to work for. They are extremely supportive and a company that is completely driven to make a person the best that they can be. And espyjust to be yourself
