I work in a busy town centre branch managing a front office team consisting of 7 members of staff. I look after their training and development whilst also managing the branch performance and customer satisfaction. I also work under the branch manager supporting him in his tasks and running the branch in his absence
I have been busy studying for my IMC test and have been given a great insight into the world of banking that my role does not touch - this has been looking at derivatives, law and rules and tax calculation to name a few - these are all things I have not been exposed to before and they are growing my knowledge.
I enjoy learning and I enjoy being able to do this at my own pace and in my own way. I like the fact I have been given video classroom session to listen too as I can then stop and start as needed and ensure I absorb all the relevant information in a way that works for me
The actual studying has been very organised I was set up with a call and received the books shortly afterwards being able to start on my study journey quickly. The side of actually getting a talent coach has been slow and is currently holding my progress up and this has caused me frustration,
I receive a high level of support from my employer being this study time out of my role to learn and questions/support with my current learning. HSBC were there to point out the opportunity and quick to enrol me on such. My line manager also supports me very closely and ensures I have the right resources to study.
As detailed above I have received great support for the part that looks after the actual studies and exams. they have provided literature, the downloaded classroom sessions and support with these in a quick turnaround - always on the end of an email if I am stuck. The side of the talent coach has been poor and 3 months in I am still waiting to meet this person
The qualification is opening my eyes to other areas and it is amazing how useful the information I learn comes quickly. Things like discussing the tax exemption for savings which I have been able to add to conversations with my team straight away and with the customers. It also has aided my structure by structuring learning and then applying same skills to my role in the branch
The bank is very active in local community initiatives, ones they have arranged and once the community have organised. we also hold social events such as quiz nights and meals out on a frequent basis. There are opportunities for sports teams if you are in the right area, such as London or Birmingham
Yes
They understand how to coach and develop you. they support extra curricular learning and help you be the best you can be. Also find the benefits to be a good package and all staff members I work with to be supportive and enjoyable to work with. The bank is going in the right direction and does work to put people and customers first
Have a look at HSBC's website, understand the company and its vision. then prepare yourself to demonstrate your customer service and desire to improve and develop in the role. HSBC has a wide arrange of different jobs so once you are in the door look around and see what interests you and work towards that goal
