  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role within the Assurance team is to assist the team in the audit of large companies. My team has specialised in Pensions, Share based payments and the audit of tax. I have mainly been focusing Pensions and testing various payments/contributions made by members of pension schemes. I have also tested the controls of relevant third parties.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my time on my first placement i have developed a number of skills. These included teamwork as i work in various sizes of teams day in day out in order to complete jobs in the most efficient but highest quality possible. Also, i have developed my communication skills as i am constantly liaising with colleagues and third parties.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • During my first few weeks with this firm i was overwhelmed by the experience of working in such a large firm covering very sensitive and complex areas. Since then i have found my feet and relished the opportunity to work on such large clients including FTSE 100 companies. Overall, I have enjoyed this placement.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme i am currently working on is very well structured and the organisation is very good. I have a clear understanding of what i am supposed to be doing and what times i should be doing this and where i should be doing them. I can constantly liaise with Newcastle University to confirm this.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The support i receive from my employer is readily available and to a high standard. I have had no issues in asking for support and whenever i ask my colleagues for support they are always happy to lend a hand. The support i receive isn't just work based too, there is emphasis on healthy support.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • The support i receive from Newcastle University is to a high standard as the trainers are qualified and have been through this process before. The trainers and lecturers are always happy to schedule meetings should i have any queries or if something needs clarifying. I feel much better informed after these meetings.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training and guidance i have received prior to my placement has helped me to complete many different roles within my placement. Having started in my role having prior knowledge really helped me to focus more on the reason for my work and how this could be improved. I could then increase my works quality.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many extra curricular groups to get involved in on placement. I myself have been playing football midweek and on the weekend for the firm. Also, my department has a thriving social scene complete with a social committee who have regular socials planned to let our hair down and get build relationships.

  • 9a. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Since my first day at PwC i have felt like an integral part of the company. When i have needed guidance, support has always been there from my peers, colleagues and the wider firm. Also, there is just the right balance of hard work and social opportunities which really helps to integrate new members.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to PwC?
  • Managing your work life balance is key - never let your social and health deteriorate due to the work. There is always help and support just a quick call away. In regards o the application process - be yourself and honest. Be down to earth as this creates the best working environment.
