My Role is an civil engineering apprentice which is to do a range of different things such as levelling, setting out and GPS. we also have to assist in concrete testing and slumping which is too test that the concrete we are using for the job is suitable for what we are doing.
I have learnt how to set out and how to level something I have also learnt how to use a GPS and to know the importance of them all. I have also learnt that the accuracy is very important depending on the job that you are doing. for certain jobs you can be a few mm out but for others it needs to be spot on
Even though I am living over 3 hours away from home I am enjoying being on site. I think that the living away experience and also being on site has given me such a new opportunity. I am now becoming even more independent in my work and what I do in general.
I have now been onsite for nearly 4 months and the first few weeks onsite were very site this was because this project was only just being which meant that there wasn't much work to be done. Now site has started to pick up and I have a lot more to do around site.
As I am only 16 I am very limited to traveling around from site to the office. but I get a lot of help from my colleagues to travel around which could be from picking me up and dropping be home. they also support me by explaining anything I don't understand.
when working towards my qualification I get a lot of support and guidance's to make sure I can get the best possible qualification I can get. this could be from explaining this again 1-1 or showing me different documents so that I can understand it in a better way for me.
I am very happy with the recent qualification I received within college. I believe that the courses I have taken have helped me on site a little bit more on site as I have a bit more understanding of the different equipment and know some of the terminology they use.
At the start of my site experience we didn't really have extra curricular activities to get involved with. but as the site has picked up we have had a meeting with the project manager and have decided that we will have a team activities now and then such as bowling or a meal.
Yes
I would recommend Bam Nuttall to a friend as I believe it is a very good company to work for. this is because they take care of all there employees and have different projects all over the place. I think Bam Nuttall is a company where anyone can join and learn more about what they do.
Tips or advice I would give to others who are applying to Bam Nuttall would be don't hesitate to talk to someone to understand more about what they do. there are different roles within bam and you be able to find the right one for you. you could start the apprenticeship as a QS and end as an engineer.
