My role as a claim handler is very complex. On a day to day basis i review claims and answer calls from many different people such as customers, third parties, third party insurance companies, solicitors, police etc. I review liability to establish who is at fault for an incident and collate any evidence we may have to prove our claim. On a daily basis i raise payments, instruct solicitors, update customers, prepare letters/emails.
i have developed on my handling of complaints, learned how to deal with difficult customers, expanded my knowledge of legislation and case laws that help do my job as well as improve my general admin skills. i believe this job has taught me how to be more patient and has challenged me a lot.
As the programme is coming to an end i have really enjoyed it, i have now obtained my financial services qualification and my Cert CII qualification. The programme has gave me a lot of good experience which would help me in my future should i wish to get a new job or move to another department within the business.
The programme is very well organised and structured. We were given a lot of learning time (3.5 hours per week) which was very useful when studying for my exams and completing activities for the financial services qualification. There is a balance between work and life which is very important. A lot of support is provided to you.
You receive a lot support from the employer as mentioned previous they give you 3.5 hours a week learning time which helped me develop and ensured i passed my financial services unit and my CII Exams. My team leader and other colleagues were always willing to assist me with any queries i had and provide me with studying tips as they had previously sat the exam.
For our CII exams we had a tutor come in ever so often for a couple of hours at a time and read over our books and answer any questions we had. They also provided us with studying material such as Revision Mate and mock exams which gave you a better insight on the exam you were going to sit. For our financial services qualification we had a tutor come in every week and check what work we had and provide us with new stuff. Because of this the work was completed very quick.
The qualification has helped me in my role in many ways. The main way it has helped me is with legislation and case laws as these help me when dealing with claims and i am able to compare claims to case laws to see how they should be settled best. The CII books are very broad and cover other areas as well as claims so it would more than likely help me should i move department.
Yes there are activities you can get involved in - the CCT team do a lot of events such as christmas parties, summer parties, bingo nights, game night etc. they do a lot of fundraising for charities that we have chosen to donate to, i am sure they have also started up a football club.
Yes
I would recommend to a friend as it is a good place to work and everyone is approachable and willing to help you. The wage is good for an apprenticeship and the qualifications are industry recognised which will help with a future career in the insurance industry should you wish to move on from a claims handler.
The job is challenging and will require a lot of time and patience however my experience has been great. It will give you a very good start to a future career in insurance. Because you are joining in an academy group of apprentices everyone is roughly around the same age group which creates friendship, in direct line i have made friends for life.
