  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Taking calls from customers - Dealing with their queries - Such as questions about their hire cars - Updates in regards to liability Also calling third party insurers or solicitors to discuss liability Paying third party representatives their clients outlay - Sending outlay requests to third party insurers for the costs we have incurred.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to deal with customers on a daily basis in a professional manner. I have also learned to deal with complaints using the correct process. I can also look at circumstances of an accident and confirm whether our client is at fault for the accident or not.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I fully enjoy the apprenticeship programme - It allows me to get a background in the insurance industry which means my job role becomes a little bit easier. I also enjoy the programme as it helps me to learn while I am working. This helps me to have a better understanding in general when speaking to third party insurers etc.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well organised - We have a tutor that comes in every month or so and will help us go through all of the chapters in our learning book making sure we understand all of the main points. We also have 3 and a half hours learning time booked in every week so that we can have time off of the phones to study.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We receive loads of support from our employer. We have been giving all of the studying material that will allow us to understand and pass the subject successfully - Along with this we have study time booked in by our employer throughout our working day which allows us even more learning time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive plenty of support from our training provider while working towards the qualification - This is things such as audiobooks and exam style questions. Furthermore - We have access to the CII website which allows us to do mock exams and use the study links on the website. Our training provider also involves our tutor in our learning time to help us study.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that the qualification helps me to perform better in my role as it helps me to have a better understanding of actual job and the background of general insurance industry. It also helps me when dealing with customers and complaints as my qualification includes specific sections about complaints and dealing with customers in a professional manner.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes - My workplace usually hold quiz nights that everyone in the department or the building can get involved in - We also have football that we can get involved in after work through the week - This would be a group of us from department that would play against each other weekly.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Direct Line to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend direct line group to a friend as the training is very good - The workplace environment is good and also the managers are all very understanding - I would also recommend the apprenticeship programme as it helps young people get take a step in the insurance industry and get a better understanding of it.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Direct Line?
  • The advise I would give someone applying to Direct Line is to go for the apprenticeship programme and study as hard as you can as the exam is very difficult. I would also advise anyone applying to Direct Line to take as much notes as they can while in training so you have a large understanding before starting the job.
