On a typical day, I am at a client's site with a team. The aim of the team would be to collect evidence from the client in order to document for our audit. Requests for evidence are made either: in person with the client or via a PwC internal medium which is shared with the client.
I have improved on being organised as I was introduced to new methods/apps that encouraged better organisation - both for my work and for my time. A new skill I have learned is ability to take notes and listen simultaneously. This is something I hadn't quite mastered doing well as it involved multitasking.
My programme has been a really enjoyable one. I have been exposed to a whole range of things: from experiencing the working life, to interacting with individuals of different caliber. It has motivated me to not limit my vision for my career as there are opportunities out there to achieve so much more!
In my opinion, I believe a lot of work was put into the smooth running of my programme. There were always people to contact when in need of help - a very strong support system was ensured and this made me feel more comfortable. In addition, there was a lot of information given in a concise manner addressing possible circumstances we may face during placement. These were really helpful to refer to when needed.
My employer had a range of support available to its' employees which I benefited from. Firstly, the employees are caring and always ready to be of help - this was a culture I appreciated being a part of. Secondly, I was assigned a buddy who I could contact on an informal level and interact with. As well as this, I had a career coach who supported me in terms of my goals and objectives for placement and how far I have achieved them.
My training provider made useful information available to us in regards to how to get certain things done and which parties are needed (for example, when logging the number of day worked during placement). The website was easy to navigate; therefore finding certain information that one needs was not toilsome. If preferred, website users could also opt for the chatting service offered for any issues that may have.
The qualification that my training provider gives helps me to catch up to the level of those who are already working as auditors and know the ins and outs. It was easier to build on my prior knowledge during placement as I was not a complete novice. The absence of it would have required more personal work to be efficient on placement.
Yes, there are always activities taking place at the office and these are made known to all employees through the mailing system. Employees are encouraged to socialise and everyone is made welcome. Taking part in social events helped me to meet others that were not in my line of service as well as others that were. It's a great chance to get to meet new people!
Yes
Firstly, the support system offered towards the progression of your career is second to none. There is always someone to speak to and someone willing to help. PwC invests well in its human capital. Secondly, the opportunities that come with travelling to client sites and getting to see how their business and processes are carried out helps to bring theory into practicality. Last but not least, PwC is a well known brand name - working there will add to your experience and make you more attractive!
Go for it! Honestly, there's no disadvantages and I personally don't have any regrets. Yes, it requires a lot more effort and dedication but then the reward you get is definitely worth it. Nothing good comes free so sacrifice a little today so you can enjoy a lot tomorrow.
