  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • opening accounts for customers, general customer service, keeping up to date with the newest accounts and rates and ensuring I am doing the best for customers on a non advised basis. Also working for a commercial bank means I have to be involved in charity and community events where possible.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt some skills, and enhanced some existing ones. The course has kind of dragged as it has progressed, where by in the start it was more enjoyable, but as its gone on the areas have felt less enjoyable to me, and now im looking forward to completing it

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I would say a 3-4 out of 10, I wouldn't rate any lower as I do feel the benefit. But if the question is based on pure enjoyment then I wouldn't rate it too highly. I appreciate the work put in and assistance available, but it's not the most fun.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • organised well, good help available. assistance there if needed. regular reviews. webinars monthly though I rarely get to see them live as im doing my day to day work and they are usually around mid morning which is a busy time in my branch. well structured in general though yes

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get half a work day a week to do my work. in this time it is protected and I don't have to do any other work that interrupts my study. I also have no issues with getting the days off for out of the branch days linked to the programme

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • my providers are good, they have all the information available and my monthly one to ones help me to feed back. whether its about how the work is going, or how my feelings on what I have done are. the calls are always on time and planned well in advance

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I cannot say yet, as ive not got it yet. I would hope it will open doors for me, and appear as a useful tool or sidenote on my cv. im unsure as to the full value of the qualification but I look forward to getting it next to my name

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • none of these no. we try to play 5 a side football, but not as often as we would like due to not having the time of the bodies to play. in the summer this should be more frequent though. It would be nicer to have more of this though

    5/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend Santander to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • I feel the pay is low for the job we do, the bonus scheme going annually makes it harder to achieve and less easy to monitor, whilst also most likely going down in value too. I don't feel they achieve their motto of simple personal fair as much as they would like to

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Santander?
  • negotiate a high salary if you can, make sure you join the union and work hard. make sure there is no way that you can be marked down, so always ensure you're doing your best. also ensure you're a benefit to the company and to the branch team
