The role I am currently doing involves activities such as benchmarking salary and ensuring we remain competitive against our competitors. In addition I manage an inbox and respond to queries relating to pay. I also work on bank wide projects which can affect the organisation as a whole. Lastly I support the whole function on any tasks they would like me to carry out.
The skills that I have learnt and developed are listed before: Core skills - English, Maths and IT have been developed IT- I have significantly improved my excel skills as I have to use excel files on a daily basis. Maths - I have learnt different methodologies to calculate English - This has improved with the use of emails and responding to different stakeholders. I have learnt how to benchmark and use survey providers to ensure salary remains competitive.
I have and will continue to enjoy the programme, the rotations within the scheme enable me to be an effective professional. I believe the enthusiasm by the managers to train is a big factor in how I have been enjoying my role. I also enjoy the studying aspect to enhance my professional knowledge.
The apprenticeship scheme is structured effectively to support my studies off the job. There are 4 rotations covering a 6 month period which I believe is a sufficient amount of time to settle in to the role and to learn new skills. In addition there is an amazing support network to help you through your rotations.
I am provided a lot of support from my employer, I have two managers - 1 of which is a line manager and 1 which is an apprenticeship manager. Both are really supportive and assist me in work and my studies, they provide effective training and advice to help me develop.
BPP do provide support on the apprenticeship scheme via course tutors, in addition we have a specific individual who supports us through the apprenticeship journey. They are able to answer any queries and they have given us a lot of knowledge on safeguarding and who to contact if anything is wrong.
I believe that the qualification supports me in my role in many different ways, for example one topic - personal development was very useful as it helped me identify development needs and as a result of this I have created a project plan for these development needs and how I will achieve them.
In my workplace there are many activities to get involved in, recently there was the opportunity to create a football team and play against other teams across the business. In addition we have a lot of local networking activities, we are able to train school pupils about the role of banks (as part of the moneywise project).
Yes
Santander is a great place to learn and earn at the same time, the work life balance is amazing and there is a clear focus from management to develop your skills further. The culture within Santander is inviting and anyone will feel at home from the 1st day they join.
The main advice that I would give is not to worry about the fact that they are a huge global brand, all managers and colleagues are friendly and supportive. I would advice those to research Santander and their global vision and who are there main competitors and future competitors. As always just be yourself and be confident!
