Audit work, consists of obtaining evidence from a client and documenting in templates. A variety of work is performed, anything relating to the balance sheet may be tested and this is a very important part of giving an audit review for all types of legal companies. They all need a qualified audit opinion
I have learnt many new skills, the most important two are computer and technical capabilities. Being able to navigate through programmes on the computer is the main part of the work. The second is building relationships and being people facing. Believe it or not the quality of work will be directly linked to how well your relationship with the client is
My programme is one of the best in its field. You get the equal balance of university lifestyle with work. As it is split up, it doesn't provide false hopes of the dramatic change in lifestyle from uni to work. The work itself is very good to have on CVs and gives you a great insight into what Audit involves- without tying you down should you decide not to pursue after university
The course has been thoroughly structured to enable everyone to be able to contact who they need to and when. It provides a perfect balance over other courses between work and studying. There is plenty of support in the office you enter as well as at the university. There is many training procedures to help aid with when you finally get sent to work, but ultimately you have to be given the work to put what you have learned for the qualification into practise
There are many people within PwC that can support you in many different ways. The Culture of the firm is to coach those above, below or even the same level as you. The Hierarchy feels small as you are involved with people from all levels all the time. You are provided with a buddy who is someone who is the level above you more of a mentor, on jobs everyone coaches everyone. You are also matched with a manger (career coach) who's job it is to ensure you are progressing within the firm.
Reading University fully supports all its students. The many teachers have had contact throughout placement with the students and have lots of free time in the lead up to university exams. This enables easy access for support and the students to build a professional relationship which ultimately allows them (me) to excel in the final examinations
The qualification has directly help me understand the work undertaken. Accounting is a language and it must be understood to be able to undertake audit work on clients. The qualification covers many aspects into perspective. E.G. tax, audit, general business application and of course audit all come into use in a usual working day
There are many events that the office can get involved with. The office has links to local gyms and are able to offer discounts. They hold social events on a monthly basis, this enables everyone to meet one another. There are business related presentations for those want to expand their knowledge in work related areas as well as many sporting events and society like clubs.
Yes
They give you lots of flexibility with your work. The supporting network is truly one of the best you can experience, rarely will you fall out with anyone as we are all in the audit together to support each other and ultimately that is what will make you progress in the firm. Hard work is rewarded but hard work combined with coaching and supporting colleagues is rewarded more
People applying should be open and flexible to the work. The hours can be long and work can be stressful (tight deadlines) so don't be unrealistic when applying. The more you offer to the firm the more they will return with. Just be yourself and put the work in and you will be rewarded not just financially but with a wonderful career with an enjoyable work ethic
