We complete planning, execution and completion activities on external audits with a wide range of clients. We go to client's site and engage with them, discussing how their business works, gaining an understanding of their business process. We audit their financial statements in order to state whether they provide a true and fair view.
I have learned a wide variety of skills whilst on placement with PwC, a lot being technical. From using the applications that PwC use on a daily basis, as well as being able to skilfully use google for communicating with fellow colleagues, organising meetings, and sharing progress trackers to check the status of each job.
I thoroughly enjoyed working on placement with PwC between university studies. I feel it has allowed me to put theory into practice and learn a variety of new skills. It has allowed me to broaden my network of contacts and given me practical work experience in the field of accounting and finance.
The programme is very well structured. We get to start at university, learning key audit knowledge and taking a few exams, and then get to go on placement and apply all the knowledge we have already learned. After that we go back to university for a few more exams, and the knowledge we have learnt on placement allows us to fully understand the content we are learning.
PwC as well as Newcastle University has many different channels of support. You can always rely on someone to talk to if ever you have an issue. Each employee has a career coach that you have regular catch-ups with so they can check on your well-being. We also have a programme director, a personal tutor, a peer mentor and many other university staff who you can go to with any issue you have.
We have lectures every week to support our learning, along with independent study. Regular progress tests make sure we are on track for achieving our goals and passing our exams, and helps us to revise better once we know how well we are doing so far. Support is available for any questions we have as we can always email the lecturers.
The exams and learning we do at university make coming on placement a lot easier. Although you still have to learn how to do the job fully, you have all the theory in your head from the lectures you have been to, which means understanding everything is a lot easier.
There are many social activities at PwC, and the Leeds office in particular is a very social one. They have christmas parties, a busy season social, a summer party, and a sports day to name a few. There is also the LCASS ball that includes other accounting firms too which many people from the office attend.
Yes
PwC is a great place to work. All the employees are extremely welcoming and the office has a great atmosphere. The firm also has very good career progression opportunities. The more experience you get, the higher you move up to senior associate, manager etc. There are many routes into PwC additionally, through school leaver, university etc.
You need to be confident and make sure you know all about PwC before any interview you go to. The PwC professional etc. Make sure you do as much practice for any tests you have to complete in the application process e.g. non-verbal reasoning, numerical tests, group assessments and individual interviews
