I work as an auditor for PwC, and the work is completely varied on a day to day basis. I work with many other team members and senior members to efficiently complete audit work, but also make sure I'm keeping up to date with my technical and business knowledge.
I have been able to develop my people and communication skills further because of the constant teamwork and interaction. Furthermore, I have been able to develop professional skills because of client interaction. I have learnt how to cope with different office cultures and how to speak to a variety of different people, including more senior staff in a company
I think my programme is the perfect balance between work and study! I enjoy the fact that we get breaks all through the year and a change of scenery because placement happens within the year, rather than before or after. We're privileged that we get to study and then have the opportunity to apply this knowledge practically.
From well before we start our course, we are given a clear structure of how the programme is structured. We are consistently reminded of this structure throughout first year, and given plenty of opportunities to ask questions so that we are completely sure of the structure and timeline of the programme.
PwC have one of the best support structures out there. I have set people assigned to support me, e.g. a buddy, career coach, but I am able to get support from virtually anyone I work with - whether that be another associate or a manager, everyone is willing to look out for you and support you.
The university provide a lot of support during our time studying. We have support from lecturers and seminar leaders, both face to face and electronically. If we have questions, we are always free to ask them and university staff are very helpful. Our course is also quite friendly and so we have the option of supporting each other as well.
My qualification and studying have been the base of my work, and have therefore given me a really solid foundation and good confidence to start work. On placement, I have been able to gain a deeper understanding of how my theoretical knowledge plays out in reality, and I have been able to see how individual modules fit into the bigger picture.
There is an extremely wide variety of social, sporting, and professional networking events available to everyone in the office. These vary from theatre trips to football games to opportunities to network with other professionals, or even get involved with being a PwC ambassador at schools and universities. There are a lot of extra things to do besides work!
Yes
Working for PwC has so many positives and many opportunities as well. The support network is well established, and people are friendly and approachable. You also have the option to work on really high profile clients, but also with equally enjoyable local clients. I would highly recommend PwC as a company!
Make sure you have a genuine interest in the business and what they do. PwC are looking for friendly, approachable people who work well within a team, and people who are open to learning as you may not necessarily have a lot of technical knowledge before starting, but they are there to help and teach you all you need to know!
