  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am personal banker which means seeing customers for financial reviews. I have a diary which I have to manage and expectations to meet. I look to help customers on a non advised level but by exploring all the options available to them. I work within a team and help out the whole branch wherever is needed ensuring customer service is the number one priority

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • With regards to the apprenticeship I feel it is aimed more at new starters as opposed to staff who have been in the job role for a long time. The one thing it does mean is guaranteed time to spend researching into topics I wouldn't usually get the chance to.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Some 'missions' have been more enjoyable than others. I find its just a case of me evidencing what I have already been doing and continue to do in my job role. As I mentioned earlier it does mean I have more thorough time looking at certain aspects of the bank to what I would usually. With still needing to meet targets such as productivity it is a bit stressful finding the time to balance it all in.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I would say fairly - We have quarterly face to face meetings which is a good time to catch up with other people on the course. We also have regular webinars and phone calls with our mentor. I do find the reflection forms and questions can be very repetitive and time consuming.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am lucky and have a very supportive boss. I manage my own diary and make sure I have time blocked out for my apprenticeship studies. My team have also been very supportive with helping me where they can on all my missions - for example when I need to present my work to others.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We haven't had much contact from BPP other than the 5 weekly webinars and quarterly meetings - Our mentor is the one that reviews our work and communicates back to us. I haven't had any issues, but future feedback it would be good to know if were on track for distinction or not and what the exact end goals are.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have been in my role for a very long time, so I don't feel that I have partially learnt anything new. It has just given me time to reflect on ways I interact and slightly more knowledge from the time spent focusing on certain areas such as complaints.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • We do a lot to help the community such as charity events and money workshops - We meet regularly as a team outside of work too. This year we have planed scam schools and money workshops and charity raffles and bake sales. This has become a big part of our job role

  • 9a. Would you recommend Santander to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I only recently recommended someone to work here, firstly we get a bonus for doing so! Secondly I really value Santander as a company! They really look to support their staff in all ways, I believe they do their best for their customers and want to make the effort to help local communities

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Santander?
  • Santander is the right company for you if you're looking to help others within the community and deliver great service. Use examples where you can demonstrate good customer service skills and where you have gone above and beyond. If you're looking for a supportive company to work for then Santander is for you.
