Project Manager - I am responsible for managing and leading digital project within a program. This covers governance, leading working groups, facilitating meetings and creating and updating a project plan. As part of my role I am also responsible for change and implementation, budget and costs and ensuring that all the minimum requirements are met to ensure success and delivery.
I wouldn't say that I have particularly learnt any new skills since attending the workshops and going through the online learning modules with ILX. However what I feel like I have done is learnt how to apply the skills that I already have to my role and to hone and develop them further. The training has allowed me to put into practice a lot of the methodology I have learnt.
It has been good to understand how to use my existing skills and get a further understanding around certain topics, e.g. governance, risks etc. The online learning has been good but it can be a bit monotonous and the development days have not been very useful as they are not really related to the online material or the portfolio.
I think it is quite poorly organised as although all the material is available online through ILX, the development days are very unproductive and are not related to either the online material or the portfolio. The terminology used across is also inconsistent and the development days would be better split into revision sessions like the one before the exam. The best part was the 3days revision ahead of the exam. This was fantastic, well structured and well delivered.
My employer has been very supportive in providing me time to concentrate on my study and also ensuring that the projects I am working on are tailored so that I have evidence to be able to submit for my portfolio. I am also able to approach them for extra support if and when required.
The training provider ILX is quite hit and miss and whilst they have provided a mentor, the value of the sessions could be questioned. The development days as mentioned above are of no value and I felt pressurised to complete the exam element asap, when it would have been better to provide enough time.
I think it has given me a broader perspective of projects and made me understand how the work I do fits in to the bigger picture of the organisation and strategy. I don't think any of the material is particularly different from what we do but it certainly helps with its application.
Yes there are numerous activities and events to get involved in. We have a sports and social club for the site and then as a department we have team nights out, social activities such as laughter yoga and specific sites/events related to wellbeing which you can get involved in.
Yes
There are so many opportunities within HSBC, career development is endless. There is a great atmosphere and a very inclusive community, that is open to all walks of life, making a very diverse culture. There is also a lot of stability and also a great overall work package including pension and other health benefits.
Apply, you wont regret it. Make sure that banking is what you have a passion for and do your research depending on what kind of role you are applying for. Provide examples of situations relating to the job profile and be yourself, I think that is the most important part.
