I am a storeman at EDF energy hartlepool. this consists of the booking in and dispatch of goods through the counter / stock. we have a weekly rotor which changes so one week I will be on the counter or working as a spare man for who is working on the counter and the week after I will be working on receipting goods.
Working at the power station has developed many skills mainly people skills working with a variety of roles. I have learnt how to take tasks at hand and complete them to the best of my ability. this has also helped me outside of work as i use the same ethic.
This roll has been a great turning point for me and i have thouroughly enjoyed working here. the best part of the programme are the people that i work with as they make the working experience better. it has also completely changed me as a person as my ethic with life has completely changed.
my programme for the most part has been excellent, there has been a few hiccups but that is expected being a new apprenticeship in this industry. it has been good with my instructor as he has set up 5 to 10 weekly goals which i have not struggled to complete.
i receive a good amount of support from my employer, he has helped me learn the role. he has also put a lot of time into developing me in to the roll. this means that i can come out of my apprenticeship already knowing what i am doing. he also helps me with all work related problems i have and gives me praise if i am doing well.
My training provider [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been amazing from the start, he has made the course very enjoyable over the past 16 months. he is always emailing and asking me how i am doing with the course and general life. He has also been great with providing constructive criticism with work that i have struggled with.
My qualification hasn't really helped with my role as it is very hands on and personally from my experiences i have learnt everything i know about my role from doing these jobs repeatedly. It has helped me getting in with a great organisation that i would like to have a full lengthy career with.
There are no extra-curricular activities that I am involved in through work outside of work. Our business used to have activies e.g. foot ball and boat racing but this has stopped. i see a few people from my site out side of work but there are no activities for us to participate in.
Yes
It is a great company full of interesting people who will help develop you more every day. it is also a great opportunity for people to have a full career and to develop themselves into better people. it has been a real turning point for me and i would like for all of my friends to have the same opportunities.
Make sure you have a very strong CV and show that you are willing to work hard and well with others. the best thing to do is be yourself and stand out as in this organisation this really helps you shine above the rest. being different in this organisation is a good thing as we are promoting diversity.
