  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • It sounds cliche, but I do something new most days here. Coming from someone who was new to coding/ development, I knew there was so much I had to learn quickly. I have been doing tasks from unit testing, developing new algorithms, some admin stuff for a data team to be able to analyse trends.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've learnt plenty of new skills. I go to university each Tuesday to learn bits about web development, programming in Java, and information/ business systems. My technical ability to code/ develop has come on leaps and bounds in the 6/7 months so far is the main skill that I've developed, and learning more about the technology world as a whole.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme. There is so much expertise to learn from here and a world of opportunity. Having one day per week to go to university is a welcome break in the week, and gives good opportunity to network, make new friends and also learn from other apprentice's experiences.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Bang in the middle here. It's well structured for my formal education (uni) over the 4 years but the module structure/ pathway choice in uni could be structured better because there are some modules that I should take for my role, but I can't do them because the other modules I should take are on another pathway. There isn't much structure in work, if I can do it/ learn from it then jump on board!

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Pastoral support is excellent here. The support for my day to day role is ok, sometimes I'm left with not much to do, there aren't really any plans for roles that I could to do let me develop further each month- if I can do something then great I do it.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I get excellent support from MMU. We have a 121 every 3 months where my tutor comes to work to see what I've been working on, talk to my manager etc and see where I can develop/ what support I can receive. The educational support from lecturers/ tutors is excellent too.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Completely and absolutely. Most of my technical knowledge comes from uni and then applying it in my role rather than learning it in my role and being able to practice it at uni which some apprentices do. It is a great course, and the only wish I have is that we were there more often because it's difficult to fit a full degree in 1 day per week.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is an abundance of activities to get involved in here. We have ping pong and a gym in work, there are running, cycling and other sporting groups. There are social groups that watch tv series' here after work, there are groups of activities all related to football (fantasy, predictions etc)

  • 9a. Would you recommend MAG Airports to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Brilliant development opportunities in the airport group. So much expertise to learn and develop from and also loads of connections to make. There are opportunities in IT, business, mechanics, HR, property, operations, health and safety so you could have 4 different careers in the same workplace. It always keeps work interesting too.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MAG Airports?
  • Do your research. See how ambitious the group is and then that is the limit to your potential development in the group! If you're passionate about something to do with the role and can take the initiative, demonstrate that. We want to move fast and come up with new ideas/ ways of working all the time so any idea is a good idea.
