My role is to pass the assessments and tests required from me on the programme and to achieve above target to gain the relevant qualifications required to work safely within PMC and to work together with my colleagues. I must attend various training classes and practical sessions in order to gain new skills relevant to my job role.
I have gained many new skills throughout the first year of the programme. I have learned many new techniques to produce various tools within hand skills and how to use a variety of tools. I have learnt how to operate machinery safely and to achieve the required result for assessments. I have also learnt new information on health and safety within hand skills.
The programme is ran very well with a variety of different lessons. The practical section is taught very well and is very useful towards our future role and in every day life. The information lesion and well presented and also contain useful information relevant to our future role. The accommodation is very good.
The programme is structured very well on the whole with an overview of the year ahead. Each session is explained with a time and date and who will be taking the session. Sometimes it is not always clear on how some of the sessions may work with travel time. This is only on rare occasions.
Very little support. I have not had the opportunity to speak with my line manager about my role within the company and my future prospects. I have also had very little support with my mentor and no explanations of what is required of me regarding this side of the role.
There is always support and guidance form the tutors. Information can be found by contacting supporting staff regarding the course. There are a number of ways to contact the staff and there are also many staff members that can be contacted concerning individual queries. They have been very responsive and helpful with any issues so far.
The training I have received helps me within my role to a certain extent particularly with the practical side of the course. The hand skills are relevant within my role and every day life. Not all sessions are relevant to my exact job role although they do provide the health and safety training that would apply to the job.
Yes there are extra curricular activities that are optional within the programme and they are outlined usually through email. There is no pressure to join them but the opportunity is there if you wish to improve your skills and CV. It can also help provide a way to meet new people.
Yes
I would recommend working for National Grid because of the huge amount of opportunities available and the variety of job roles within the company. They will support you throughout your career and help provide stability and security within your work and home life balance. It is also national which means that relocation is a possible option if required.
You must work hard and obtain all the relevant qualification required for the role. It has a strict recruiting system so it is important to make sure that you fit the relevant criteria. They are looking for a well balanced individual with good communication skills and practical skills. You must be able to organize yourself.
