My role as a maintenance engineer is to ensure that all machinery that is used is intact and working fine. If this is not the case then we engineers have to solve the problem by doing all that is possible so that we can get back up and running making product.
After my first year here i have gained many new skills, some of these include communication, team work and a good understanding of the engineering industry. I have gained much knowledge from this and in the coming years of this apprenticeship i would like to develop my knowledge even further.
I do enjoy my programme to a great extent. This is because it has gave me the opportunity to learn so much and i now have the opportunity to make a life for myself by completing my programme and hopefully get as job at the end of it. My co-workers also make this experience enjoyable as they will do anything to help you out and are always very welcoming, as well as passing on all the knowledge that they have.
There is a lot of structure to my course. The course is spread over 5 years and contains the following: My first year consists of 4 days a week at college doing a level 2 and 3 engineering course and one day a week on site. Then year 2 and 3 consists of doing a HNC course, year 4 moves on to the HND and then year 5 is a test of your competence and how you will be as an engineer.
Throughout the year i have received much support from many people. The manager is always happy to help and to answer any questions and will always check up on how you are getting on. The HR team are always there for you to solve any problems you have a to make your experience here as enjoyable as they can.
I have been given a lot of support through out my first year here. Any problems i have then people will go out of their way and do all they can to help me. Whilst shadowing the qualified technicians, they will always be happy to explain what they are working on, what it does, and how they are going to fix it.
What i learn at college is a big help towards my time at work. This is because it helps me to understand how and why certain things on site work (e.g. Motors). Because of this, it has helped me to develop my knowledge and will no doubt be useful in the near future.
There a some activities that are set up by co-workers, things such as sport and leisure activities (Golf on the weekends) and days out for special occasions (Christmas Party). I feel like doing this and taking part is a good idea as it may help to build your relationship with your co-workers and in doing this will have a happy life at work.
Yes
I would recommend a friend to Premier Foods as in my opinion, they have one of the best apprenticeship courses that you could get. They have a great team of people to support you through your course and the course in its self is also really good as you gain much knowledge and qualifications and a lot of experience the engineering industry.
Throughout the application process you must show your willingness to learn and show that you are eager to learn more and to become an engineer. You also need to put yourself out there an be proactive and do anything you can to learn by asking as many questions as possible
