  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Supporting applicants and temporary applicants through the onboarding process when buying a Post Office. Involves regular contact with them, updating databases, checking business plans, arranging interviews, sending out contracts then dealing with the training aspect of it i.e. getting them through the online training / classrooom training / onsite training. Its very varied and revolves around helping the applicants to progress easily.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt more about my personal development and the importance of regularly creating a personal development plan. It is helping me focus on my own development and progression of my career and I have learnt a lot about communication, personal development and planning / organisation. Its helped me gain my promotion to team leader.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as its not mountains of essays or too much work, I can do it in bite size chunks and have a weekly plan of the work I'm to complete. I do this when I have quiet periods in work. It's enjoyable and I really feel like I am learning.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It's very well structured. My trainer gives me a unit to do over 6 weeks or so and I have a plan at the beginning of what I do every week. He is very informative and helps me during our meetings and I feel I know what's going on and can keep up to date with all the work gradually.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support in my role as my manager is very supportive and sits with me completing my skills endorsement sheets and helps me put whatever I need to do with the apprenticeship into place. The only issue is sometimes I am so busy that I don't get the quiet time required to complete this.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I think I receive quite a lot of support from my trainer. He is very helpful, if I need anything he answers my emails quickly and always gets back to me. They guide me through the process and help me complete it in bite sized chunks as to not overwhelm me so its been very positive.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It definitely has given me lots to aim for in my role. In terms of my personal development, it has helped me focus on this a lot and I believe it has given me the skills to progress in my career. I actually have recently gained a promotion and I believe this is a part of that.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes, there are lots of professional networking events such as Women in Leadership events. We also have engagement champions, BAME groups, digital starts groups, etc. We always commit to charitable causes and there is a big focus on PRIDE events for the LGBT community. The Post Office is very social and there is lots to do (although mainly in London offices)

  • 9a. Would you recommend Post Office to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's a great company to work for. It's flexible, laid back, it pays well. Anybody that starts working for the Post Office tend to work there for 10+ years, once you start you never tend to leave as the benefits are excellent and its just a great company to work for.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Post Office?
  • I would say you need to be honest and open as an individual, its not so much about how many qualifications you have or how intelligent you are but more about how passionate you are about the brand and how you want to see it succeed and grow. They want people who believe in the north star strategy.
