I am a team leader and duty manager. My role includes managing a team of people and making sure that the business is running smoothly. I am responsible for opening and closing the pub, cash handling and banking, customer service, problem solving, dealing with complaints and taking feedback from customers.
I started my job when I was 17, since then I have progressed from a team member, to a team leader and finally to a designated duty manager; running 4-6 shifts a week. I have learned most of my hospitality and customer service skills through out my time in this role. I am currently working through my level 2 NVQ, and I hope to progress into the higher levels afterwards.
I am currently really enjoying my programme. I had reached a point in my role where I had learned everything I could through working, so I feel that an NVQ is the best way to expand my knowledge further. After completing my leve 2, I hope to progress into higher levels of NVQ and develop my knowledge even further.
So far I have only completed two meetings with my assessor, but I feel like the meetings have been very well structured and organised. At the beginning of each meeting I am told what we will be going over, we then complete each task and review. To end each meeting we discuss what we will cover in our next meeting.
I believe that Greene King as my employer are very passionate about allowing me to grow and develop my skills. I love that Greene King offer the opportunity to enroll in qualifications that will stay with me through out my career. I intend on completing as many qualifications as I can with the help of my employer.
My training provider offers me as much support as I need. I am able to email or call them with any queries that I have and they have provided me with a lot of tools that help me through out my qualification. I f el very supported by my assessor.
I feel that my qualification reinforces my knowledge and understanding of my role. My qualification allows me to develop my understanding of legislations and laws that are related to my role. I also feel that my qualification teaches me new skills that I have not learned from my line manager.
My pub is the host to a weekly quiz, where customers nd employees are allowed to participate. We also host a golf society for the locals and our employees. We have held many team building nights for our employees to reinforce relationships and boost team morale during busy periods; I.e summer.
Yes
As mentioned above, I believe that greene King are passionate about allowing their employees to learn and develop, at no extra cost. There are always courses, open days or development days to attend ( I have attended quite a few ) as well as access to NVQ’s that are benificil to the many roles within the company.
Be willing to work as a member of a team, always be open to learning new things, aim to progress, get to know your team and how you can work well within the team, get to know your own working style so that you can understand who you work best with.
