  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy meeting with Kerry Ridge, she is very encouraging, helps my understanding, and also creates a target for us to get to by the next session. This ensures I will have any learning completed by the time she’s next there. I feel supported also. Also I love getting the qualifications.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well. Due to the demanding restaurant industry, I was really struggling to get any time to get my work books completed, and I was beginning to fall behind. Kerry created a number of dates to work to, and just focusing on something instead of a lot each visit helped lots, as I managed to squeeze it in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Some support. He was very willing with me completing all of the books and tests, and helped me with confirming my learning. He wasn’t very helpful when completing my speaking and listening though, as he said he didn’t want to pay two employees to sit and listen to me on his time. So as a back up plan, I had to organise for Kerry to travel to Leicester (my home town) to complete it. Luckily I found a member of the team who was willing to help me for free, but for him to jeopardise my qualifications wasn’t very fair. Kerry tried to help by sending him an email explaining the importance.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • So much support, in fact there is a website which I used to help towards getting my English and maths practise tests done. Also as I wrote above about how Kerry was prepared to leave her catchment area to help me complete my speaking and listening exam as it was looking un hopeful

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • There are many ways which I feel it will help, I think that knowing laws and regulations are so important, as it teaches me the boundaries and what’s important to look out for, it also allows me to support my staff more, if they have a problem now, I will know how to help them with confidence

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not at this moment in time, we are looking into darts tournaments or pool teams, but it hasn’t been implemented yet. We do have a dj on a Saturday night, so I guess i could bring my friends down, but nothing really to get involved in at the moment

  • 9a. Would you recommend Greene King to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they have fair pay, they have interest in how their staff are feeling, if there’s problems within the work place, they always take it seriously, there is progression within the company. And I’m sure some places will have a work life balance. They encourage progression and for team to speak out

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Greene King?
  • Ensure that it is really what you want to do. Don’t jump into bigger roles too quickly as your work life balance will suffer... the apprenticeship scheme is worth doing, speak your mind, if you feel there’s improvements to be made, why not make them happen. Also the staff vouchers are good
