I manage the accounts for twelve low to medium complexity entities. This involves posting journals, creating and arranging payment of invoices, preparing management accounts, budgets, and providing information for various stakeholders. It also requires completing a month end process every month and also a more complex close at year end.
I have learnt so many new skills since starting my apprenticeship. I deal with much more complex accounting, building on what I learn from the topics I cover at Kaplan college. I have also gained new skills such as organisation and communication from managing my own time and dealing with different people I parts of the business.
The programme I am on is great. I have a lot of responsibility for the level which I am at. The way the programme is structured allows me time to study at college and also gain new skills and competencies through job shadowing. My talent coach keeps me on track and my Manager is on board with everything I am doing.
My programme is very well structured. My manager and I put time aside at the beginning of my programme to map out how to make best use of my 20% study time. The programme allows me time to go to college and also time spent developing in the company through training, job shadowing and different opportunities.
I receive lots of support from my employer, they have been understanding when I have time taken out of the office to study. My colleagues and manager help to manage my work load around the time of exams etc. and I can talk to my manager for advice or if I feel I am struggling.
I receive lots of support from Kaplan. All of the tutors there are brilliant, they go above and beyond to help with exam preparation and assisting in any areas where I may be struggling. The course materials are always easy to follow and of high quality content, there are also materials available online.
The qualification I am doing at Kaplan is pinnacle to the work I do at Engie. Learning accounting concepts and the theory behind what we do goes hand in hand with the practical work I do at Engie. Completing my qualification allows me to take on more complex accounting and really develop in my role.
There are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved in here at Engie. We do a Step Challenge every year and there is a walking club once a week. We have a social and well being committee who run a slimming club which I attend. We also have a Dinner Club who meet once a quarter.
Yes
I would recommend Engie to a friend because they are supportive of the apprentice programme that I am doing. They do not begrudge taking time away from the office and support training opportunities to help to develop individuals. I also enjoy the extra curricular things we are able to get involved in.
Any advice I would give to someone applying at Engie is that Engie is a big company, there are lots of secondment opportunities and opportunity to be promoted within. Starting off an apprenticeship here at Engie can open a lot of doors and be a good start for a career.
