I am the social media executive of Manchester Airport. This involves working with airlines, retailers and third party outlets to the airport, and creating engaging content to promote on the MAN social media channels. This also involves dealing with customer service issues, answering questions that passengers ask via twitter and facebook and sharing live footage from events.
I have learnt a lot about the functions around the airport and the different departments. During my apprenticeship i increased my knowledge of social media and in particular social media in business. I learnt what visuals work well on what channel, and learnt which channel works best with different audiences.
I really enjoyed my program. I felt that i was immersed into lots of fun and different events. The team i work with didn't just restrict me to my sector of work. I met lots of different people in the airport business. I mainly enjoyed getting out of the office and capturing pictures and videos of fun things.
my program was very well organised on the airports side. I have a productive weeks induction where i met relevant people i would work with, did lots of training and then when i felt comfortable was let free to create my own work. I felt a lot of support from my team.
During my training program i got a lot of support. We had regular one to one meetings and i felt like i was encouraged to ask as many questions as i needed. I felt confident to raise any issues or concerns i had with my manager and wider teams too.
Towards the end of my training program i felt like i had a lot of support. I had regular one to one meetings with my support worker for my apprenticeship. I ad great contact with them and they were always checking if things were ok at work.
My qualification has taught me new skills in business which i now put into practice in my official role. I feel that with these skills i will be able to progress further in my career at the airport and more opportunities will be available to me. i now know more about the industry i work in.
