  • Notebook and tablet computer repairs Diagnosing faults in computers and repairing them Replacing faulty components repairing circuit boards to component level cleaning circuit boards and components removing or reinstalling software including Windows OS replacing or updating BIOS and device drivers contacting customers to obtain additional information or provide updates as required

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • communication with customers and colleagues within my and other departments using multimeter to aid with diagnosing faulty circuit boards diagnosing and testing devices to find faults and resolving them identifing whether component failure is caused by damage or a defect / failure managing workload efficiently and prioritising work correctly makign use of other departments to help progress work

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • the work is varied and interesting colleagues are great to with with and helpful whether needing advise or to do some work upon the device that I am currently repairing should an issue arise both Manager and colleagues have at times gone out their way to help sometimes the work is challenging which does help to keep it interesting

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Induction was extensive with a lot of useful information. Regular review meetings with both employer and Tutor. Each Lesson begins with a 'lesson plan' to help show what is to be studied each day. College provides a comprehensive system called 'Onefile' which contains your notes, reviews, attachment files and a Journal showing your progress

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer was very enthusiastic in signing me up to the Apprenticeship. I feel that my Manager is very supportive and helpful in managing time to attend College. Some tasks are required to be done within work hours and this has been arranged without any concerns. This may also open up the opportunity to work in different departments of the business.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Training provider is easily available should I need any support. The Tutor makes regular visits to the workplace which is also very helpful. Contact with Tutor can be made by phone, email or if not available then Student Services can also be contacted if I require. Further support services are also available for Health and Finance,

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The involvement of the course does help to build confidence. Some of the work involved is new and thus brings you out of your comfort zone and shows what you are capable of achieving and well as learning something new. Techniques on how to fault find is most useful with my job role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is a social networking team that make regular activites such as raffles which help raise money for charity also. During peak work times there are in work events and fancy dress with rewards to those whom get involved. Occasionaly there are out of work events too which can involve colleagues and their family members.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Job security. Good pension scheme. Opportunity to improve in your job role or perhaps move to other roles if you wish. Wide range of staff discounts and benefits. Fairly often there are special offers/deals available for staff members. Sharesave scheme to save money and buy shares within the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • Show passion in your work and interests, ideally they should be related to the role you apply for. Need to have the right attitude and behaviours to bring to work. Give examples of how you have dealt with situations at work that can be difficult or stressful and resolved them.
