  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work on a helpdesk within my organisation and deal with all sorts of issues from hardware to software. I balance the work I am doing on a ticketing system which is where we receive the issues and then we can close them once we have resolved them. It also involves me listening out for the phone in case an external member calls about an issue.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have picked up many new skills in my job roll such as how to configure different types of hardware and how to work different software programs. I have also picked up many people skills as well, I have become more confident in talking to people who walk up to me with an issue and I am able to address different variants of people politely.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I didn't like being at school and I had the choice to either go to sixth form or do the apprenticeship programme I am currently on and I am so glad with the decision I have made. I am very much better at being hands on with something rather than being in a classroom. I have picked up many skills that will stay with me for life that I wouldn't have picked up if I was at school, I have also met some great friends.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I am always one to balance my work efficiently, I don't like things being out of place or not structured well because that just causes stress and makes you work less efficiently. whereas everything so far as been smooth and the modules are well structured to lead me onto the next course but still allowing me time to revise for the next module.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employee has given me all the support he possibly could. he is always checking up on how I am doing and see if there is anything in my ticketing queue that he can help me with. I am not afraid to ask him questions as he makes it a warm and comfortable environment to work in.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • They give me all the relevant materials and more that I need to pass my exams. They constantly make sure if I am stuck or have any questions and make sure im as prepared as I possibly am for the exam. they help make the exams less stressful by preparing me to the max and making me feel like I don't have to be afraid to ask questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have picked up many new skills and lots of knowledge throughout my modules which I then come to find myself doing a couple days after in the work place. this really helps pick up the pace of my learning and me progressing to the final product of my qualification.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • People within my organisation like to run events such as clay pigeon shooting or going out after a conference just to keep everyone happy and so they aren't stressed about the days work ahead. the company likes to fund for pizza and doughnut days to make sure the users within the organisation are happy and satisfied about where they work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Jisc to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I chose to do an apprenticeship and Jisc rather than going to school because I am a more hands on kind of guy and don't like to be stuck in a class room, and I have never looked back since. everyday I am meeting amazing people, picking up new skills and gaining lots of useful knowledge. Not to mention, the pay check.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Jisc?
  • If you are thinking about starting at Jisc then go for it, if you have a feeling that it might be for you then it definitely is, go with that intention as you wont regret it. everyone is so friendly and welcoming that you wont feel nervous or pressured when you join. Jisc is such a great and warm place to work living by the values pace, pride, passion, trust and teamwork.
