  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned how to operate the tills and systems used within the branch. Via talking to customers daily I have also been able to work on sales pitches within conversation to prevent them being too scripted. During my time here I have also been educated in saving, pensions, retirement and general mortgage advise.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • Each day can be different in regards to the queries however many of the customers come in daily and the more interaction you have the more rapport and easier the approach to try and offer advice in ways the building society can aid them. I am fortunate to have a lovely group of people working in Gateshead and I enjoy spending my work days along side them as I learn.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • early on in the program not too much information was provided I would have like a detailed plan of the program from being enrolled rather then waiting a month for a meeting. I am eager to find out what the program involves and what revision will be required or if any tests are included.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think actually working along side of the training will be a massive help. Learning on paper and putting into practice is a brilliant idea and one I know will work for me. I expect once I have finished the year program I will feel confident that I can comfortably complete any task provided.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The Branch often arrange team nights out and meals. The relationships within the branch are excellent and via this they have produced a strong team network which works within day to day as everyone chips in to do there bit. The men within the branch attend football and go to the gym together after work some nights.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Newcastle Building Society to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Prior to joining the society I was not aware just how much the services we offer can help customers to plan for their future and consider things like pensions, and retirement. I have most certainly learned a lot from being here in such a short time and I will be using the services to help going forward when I buy my first home or review my savings and pensions, generally to discuss things for my future. I will be taking advantage of the free financial advise which we offer within the society and customers need to be made more aware of this and I would highly recommend becoming a customer of NBS

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Newcastle Building Society?
  • Go for it! You've got nothing to loose and loads to gain. The society offer many paths which you can progress within. This to me seems like a good starting point. By completing my first year on the program I can watch and experience so many different job positions and make a clear choice as to which I would like to dedicate my self to.
