My job involves many different tasks on and off site. On site my main tasks will be to set out required information and survey data accurately, while tracking progress of the works on site. I also have to solve any on site problems and find quick solutions. Off site i will need to produce RAMS and write up daily site diary's.
While carrying out my apprenticeship i have learnt a wide range of useful life skills. I have learnt how to work efficiently in a team and how teamwork is essential to every project. I have gained skills in surveying and using survey equipment. I have also increased my problem solving skills
I find the apprentice degree programme very enjoyable. At times it can appear to be stressful and full on but when you look back at the situations you realise how much you have learnt. The main reason i enjoy the programme so much is due to the fact that every day i am learning something new.
To start with the programme can take a while to get going, but i feel that is just the starting process. The overall structure of the programme is made clear to you from the start and you are made aware of your options throughout the process. Once you get into the rhythm the process the programme can be well structured.
Whenever i have had a problem and asked for support i have always revived it. I therefore feel like if i was to have any future problems i would know who to speak to and get the required support needed. Costain are a great company when it comes to looking out for each and every employee
I have had a vast improvement from my previous training provider and feel i have complete support when working towards my degree. My training provider are in contact frequently to ensure i am keeping up with the deadlines as well as ensuring i am enjoying the programme. They also visit my site for meetings with myself and line manager.
I feel that by carrying out a degree while also working on site is extremely helpful. This is because it allows for me to use the knowledge from degree and apply the theory to my day to day tasks. It also allows for me to use my knowledge on site and apply it towards my university work.
Extra-curricular activities are always offered via email, posters, word of mouth and much more. the extra-curricular activities provided also cover a wide range. One of these can be becoming a STEM ambassador and helping out around schools in the UK. Another example could be to join the sites 5-a-side football team.
