Analyst Review

My day-to-day job at EY consists of me drafting emails, letters and reports, reviewing reports and processing receipts and payments for our clients. The role changes week by week however, as new clients are engaged with and your assistance may be needed on another more urgent task or project. I am given a wide range of opportunities here.

All candidates enrolled onto the EY Apprenticeship Scheme are also enrolled into college (Kaplan) and we all study to complete either ACA/ICAS exams (chartered accountancy). The exams you study for depend on the office where you are based. I have developed my communication skills within an office environment and become much more confident when speaking to senior colleagues.

I knew I didn't want to go off to University and by joining EY I was able to start working straight from school. I thoroughly enjoy coming to work and around a third of my colleagues have either completed or are in the process of completing their apprenticeship, so there is a large group of young colleagues with whom to socialise. EY's company ethos is great, the company makes you want to work hard whilst at the same time not pushing you too much.

When I joined EY we had two or three days of induction in the office and many meetings with our new managers and colleagues to help us feel as comfortable as possible. We are provided with at least 10 hours of face to face training from our colleagues every month, as well as, online courses and classroom led courses to aid our development, all alongside studying for ACA exams. It is challenging to work all day and study, however, it is possible if you put your mind to it.

I receive great support from EY, we have a counsellor who is someone senior in our team that we work with day to day, as well as an apprenticeship coach, who looks after all the outside of work training we do (at college). Even though these are delegated people, I feel as though I could speak to all of my team if I ever had a problem.

The training provider Kaplan provides us with amazing support. Mykaplan is a website which has all of our training on it, which is easily accessible, as well as, direct chats or calls with our tutors if we have queries. This really puts your mind at rest knowing someone is there to support you 24/7.

I feel that by completing the ACA exams it helps me to fully understand all of the tasks I am set out to do, as I can now see the bigger accounting picture for my team, client and firm. Through studying for the ACA exams, my understanding of the whole accounting industry and our competitors has increased.

There are many sports teams available to join at work but I have not joined any of them. I do use the corporate discount for the gym however! I have attended some of the forums and conferences run by different EY teams and sectors, as they are often held in my office.

I would recommend EY as I feel that all of my colleagues are reliable and strive for client excellence, as well as the offices being an engaging and fun place to work day to day. EY also do a lot to reduce environmental waste, which I feel not too many companies focus on in today's busy society.

For anyone applying for a role at EY, I would recommend staying ahead of the game and finding out what date the roles open up and aiming to be one of the first to get your application in. Once through to assessment centres and interviews, do as much research as possible about the service line you are joining and to be yourself.
