I am a business apprentice in government and public sector. On a day to day basis I hold meetings with the client to discuss their processed and perform testing around transactions during the year to ensure that the clients accounting policies and practices are line in legislation and that there is no fraud occurring.
I have learned many skills whilst starting with EY one including communication skills. I have learnt how to communicate effectively with the clients and how to. I believe that during my time with EY I have also developed my professional scepticism which is a crucial and essential audit skill. Furthermore, I during the first few months I've learnt about the importance for the quality of the work I produce therefore have also been able to carry this over into my personal life.
I thoroughly enjoy the work experience that I have been given by EY. The work that I am expected to produce is of a high standard and the supportive team around me help that happen. Not only do my team support me during my work tasks but also throughout the exams.
The organisation of my program this year has been very well developed in the form of the training I received when joining and the college time allocated. I do believe that our exams team is supportive for each employee and is always accommodating in personal circumstances. There has been one instance when our college time details were no communicated to us until 1 month before.
I have received an enormous amount of support from my current employer in regards to the training program I am on. Each apprentice has a buddy and an allocated councillor at work who ensures that they are contactable for any work related or personal issues that are effecting you. My buddy also ensured that before I joined he contacted me to ensure that I had a point of contact during my onboarding experience.
My training provider has been good and always sends email updates with exams and any information needed. They also liaise with EY for any information about exams needed. Also Kaplan have a large range of resources available for exams including a call back request for tutors and video banks for specific questions.
I feel that the information that I learn at college enables me to understand the technical part of my role. It also means that I can gain a deeper understanding of the work that I am performing and the accounting knowledge helps when performing testing at year end or interim audits .
Yes, EY have many networks and social activites that we can join. Our team also have professional events that are held to enable the team to bond to ensure that we can work better to build a better working world. There are also specific networks that you can join to get involved in different projects e.g. women's network.
Yes
I would definitely recommend EY to a friend because of the positive experience I have received so far. I have been very welcome and received a large amount of support from the team that I work with on a daily basis. Also EY's culture is very inclusive which makes it a positive place to work.
Ensure that the program is right for you. It is hard work to juggle studying with working full time especially when you are straight out of school/college however the rewards are very beneficial. If you feel it is right for you then make sure you do your research around the program and the company ready for your interviews and assessment centre. Also ensure to be yourself and as we are a company that endorses diversity.
