As a maintenance apprentice my roles is to learn the skills needed in order to do a maintenance technician role at the end of my apprenticeship. Key skills are learnt in rotations such as Electronics, fluid power, Electrical, mechanical and PLC training. each day different parts of these area are taught to us to allow us to build our knowledge upon the subject.
Having not had previous experience of all the subjects that we are learning about most skills that i have learn't have been new skills. Some previous skills such as electronics which i have had experience in i was able to build upon, where as the new skills i have been taught i feel very confident in applying to applications.
The programme is very good at teaching you the new skills whilst also doing so in a relaxed environment. the tutors are a big help towards this because of their professonal attitude and experience in teaching. new skills are able to be used in constructive ways making it very enjoyable.
The programme is very well organised with slight flexability when it is needed. at the start of the year you are able to see the rotation time table to be able to see what rotations you are on and when throughout the year. The good organisation allows for good preperation of the subject.
All the support you could possibly want is offered to you by BMW. This can include extra lessons in subjects to concrete the understanding of subjects to help outside of work for example with family issues. These points have been expressed throughout the apprenticeship making you feel very secure in case anything every happened.
The support from the training provider is very good, they express that if extra help is needed in subjects that they will provide it to give you the knowledge needed. the friendly attitude that the tutor have makes you feel that with any problems you may have you can see them.
Alot of what is taught during the qualification is relivant to the workplace after the apprenticeship. this training allows me to perform better in the job role i will end up doing. training on new technologies in the qualification is however absent and i feel will be needed in the future of automobile companies.
There are plenty of extra-curricular activities to take part in at the BMW Group, these include football teams, the 3 peak challenge, recruitment events and local advertising events. this allows you to bond outside of work with employees and represent the BMW group. in house events are also organised to allow you to get to know other employees in other departments.
Yes
The skills in which i have learnt have been not only useful to tasks at work but also to everyday life. the BMW Group is a large company that supports you very well with good perks such as a company car, good pay during the apprenticeship and after and treated equally and fairly.
If you are an individual that is willing to learn and better yourself the BMW group will allow you to do so throughout your whole carrier. This should be experienced by doing work experience and asking other employees of their experiences and what they think. I did this before starting the apprenticeship and was told by every employee that i asked that you get very well looked after from start to finish.
