  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Carrying out day-to-day telephone banking transactions, like paying bills or transferring funds abroad, or offering our customers products and services that are right for them, you’ll be there to help. I respond to their changing needs and use my own expertise to recommend and promote the benefits of the different ways they can bank with us.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • During my apprenticeship, I learned a lot about the background of banking and in depth information about behind the scenes within the banking world. During my time at RBS, I have learnt lots of new skills and continue to learn these on a daily basis. I have been given a lot of in house training regarding system changes and procedure changes.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoyed being part of the apprenticeship programme as I like to learn as I work. I was determined to complete this so I can further my career within the banking industry and I am hoping by gaining this qualification, this will help me do so and it will be recognised.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • To begin with it wasn't great and this was partly to do with the assessor I was given from BPP and the communication between apprentices and RBS, however I was then assigned a new assesor from BPP and we then had a meeting with everyone in RBS who is involved in the apprenticeship and it dramatically improved after they listened to what the apprenticeships thought and needed.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I received a lot of support from my employer - amble time allowed off the phone in order for me to complete tasks on time and extra time on quiet days to sign off and complete anything else than I could. My manager also read through any work that I asked he to and gave me feedback when required.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I was first assigned an assessor from BPP who wasn't great and the support I received was almost none. However, half way through my apprenticeship, I was allocated a new assessor and she couldn't be more supportive and helpful. She helped in every way she could to ensure I finished my apprenticeship.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have only just qualified so I haven't seen many changes yet however I am now starting to apply for new jobs now I have completed it and I am hoping it will help me progress within RBS and secure a career where I can put what I have learned into place.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes there are charity events monthly set up by our charity champions where we have to pay £1 to dress down and there is always tombolas, raffles and chances to win lieu. There is also volunteering opportunities and regular social events like Christmas night out, summer night out, pub quizzes etc that are organised throughout the year.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend RBS to a friend on my experience I have received since the moment I applied for the job. The communication was great and the training I have received since being in the role has been good as well. The extras you receive is also great and really helps with every day living,

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • I would also recommend anyone who is thinking of applying for a job within RBS to really research the role they are applying for and also gain information on RBS as a whole. I would also tell them to study for the interview and use the STAR structure when in the interview.
