  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role consists of a number of business as usual activities and also some work based on the projects we are working with. I use a range of Microsoft office products which it helps to be proficient in. I also help maintain a number of intranet pages and work spaces for our team.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Have attended a range of courses internally and externally which has helped develop my knowledge. I have improved my knowledge of the Microsoft office products massively. I've also been on a number of courses to improve my skills and learn new concepts within the bank and have a number of courses lined up in the future.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme but sometimes it can be frustrating. When we have units and topics that are not relevant, its very difficult to find work based examples when they are required. I have enjoyed getting to meet new people and now have a number of new friends throughout technology.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • There have been a number of delays to deadlines and a lot of changes to the end dates throughout our programme. The provider and the business seem to have differing views on things and hopefully the issues get ironed out soon. Upon giving feedback we have been given more face to face training which has helped.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive good support from my employer, my manager and team understand that my apprenticeship work is a key target for me. They allow me time to complete my work aside from my day job and help me whenever help is required. They proof read my work thus ensuring it authenticity and also to help error check.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • At first we had only online materials to view and form our work, since giving feedback we have a number of face to face training. This involves more hands on experience and allows us a better understanding due to being able to ask real questions to our lecturer and tutor.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has not aided me in my day job, but I realise its a requirement to complete in order to move on into a permanent role. There seem to be some novel topics within the course and some that really are not relevant which makes it hard to find work based examples.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of networks you can join within the bank. I have been playing 6-a-side football for the past year or so with a group of guys from within technology. This has helped massively in building up a good network within the bank and making great contacts in good places.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There are a huge number of opportunities within the RBS, there seems to be folk whom have worked here for years. That shows people enjoy working here and can make a career out of it. I have friends who were on the apprenticeship programme and are now in permanent roles, that shows there is progression.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • Be honest in the interview and be yourself, try to think of examples and take notes throughout the interview process. Don't worry if you don't have a specific example just try to relate it to something similar that you have experience in and form an answer from that.
